Over the years the Boy Scouts of America have held National Jamborees at various sites. In 2013 they will begin holding them at the same place on property that the Scouts own. The new location is the Summit Bechtel National Scout Reserve near New River Gorge at Mount Hope West Virginia.

The first National Jamboree was to be 1935 on the Mall in Washington, DC. It was canceled due to a polio epidemic. It was held in DC in 1937.

1950 at Valley Forge, PA.

1953, Irvine Ranch, California.

1957 at Valley Forge, PA. My 2 older brothers attended and I visited for 1 day.

1960 at Colorado Springs, CO across the highway from the Air Force Academy. I attended, we bussed out, spent 10 days, bussed down for 10 days at Philmont Scout Ranch and bussed home. Away from home for a month, I still say WOW!

1964 at Valley Forge, PA. My younger brother attended.

1969 at Farragut State Park in Idaho.

1973 at Farragut State Park in Idaho and Moraine State Park in PA.

1977 at Moraine State Park in PA.

1981, 1985, 1989, 1993, 1997, 2001, 2005 and 2010 at Fort A.P. Hill in VA.

How many of you have gotten to one?

I was at the 1969 Jamboree, Idaho. A beautiful place.

I recall we stopped lashing our entrance gate together to listen to the moon landing on a transister radio.

A long time ago.

Visited the 1960, in Colorado Springs, with a one day side trip to Philmont.

Sorry I Missed You Doug

However if you saw a small Scout running aound with a bloody nose, that was me. With the combination of altitude, heat and dryness I had a nosebleed every day. Kept me away from the rifle ranges, just walking by them, the crack of a 22 rifle would set it off. I made up for it at Philmont, where it was nowhere near as dry. Took an NRA rifle safety course, fired at the 22 range, then went to the 30-06 range where I fired at steel plate targets until I ran out of money.

Never as a scout, but helped with the Surveying Merit Badge for a couple days at the 2010 Jamboree.
