So I received another endorsement on LinkedIn today. Oh joy.
I have never worked with, or for, this individual. I've met her once, she's a friend of my daughter's, so I responded to her connection request.
When I met her, she thought surveyors take pictures with that tripod thingy. I tried to explain a bit at a family gathering, and of course her eyes glazed over after about 15 seconds.
To my knowledge, she has never seen any of my work product whatsoever.
Now, for some reason, she says I'm skilled at boundaries, topos & subdivisions. Woo-woo.
I ask, of what value are LinkedIn endorsements, anyway? I've also received them from any number of people who are in no position to evaluate my skill levels. I say it's just more social media bullpucky.

I agree. I think most of them are fishing for an endorsement from you.
I HATE linked in
NEVER ever let them have your name and email.

LinkdIn is an environment for the Business Facebook crowd.
Like MatchDotCom and other social vampire sites, after you have received an invite from someone and visit their site, it will connect to your email account and cross index that with everyone that has done the same and start putting people together.
It is embedded and will not go away on my computer because I made an account, never finished my signup info and can not remember my password, yet there are dozens that contact me that are friends of friends.
I hope they understand why I haven't responded, I am too busy enjoying it here at BeerLeg.com
😉
I got on it at the request of a salesman that was switching companies. I sometimes get an invitation to "connect" and usually accept, although I'm not really sure what it means. I also get endorsements sometimes, but not real sure about them either.
I don't have enough time to play around on it and figure it out. Not sure I want to, it seems to be invasive as said by others and messes with my address book or contacts or something, and I just as soon be left alone.
I spend too much time here, really. If I took on any more "social" activities, I could very well loose the crop.
I get requests all the time from people I've never heard of.
Just because someone request a connection on any social media doesn't mean you have to accept. I normally just never respond.
I think some people think of these connections as a game to see who can collect the most.
As to your "endorsements", you can edit those. I have had people give me endorsements on things I have never touched - eg: any UNIX/LINUX variant.
Keep your network small and refined. If they don't have experience working with you professionally they are not a good connection.
Don't be a connection collector.
Some of the endorsements do get a little overboard.
I find that it is not as invasive as it could be. It is pretty easy to hit the ignore or delete also.;-)
I do receive some news feeds from linked-in groups that I find interesting reading and discussion.
It is another way to connect with friends from the past, if one wants to do that..
Those things are a joke. I went to my LinkedIn account and looked at my "endorsements". Even I had to snicker!! +o(
"It is embedded and will not go away on my computer..."
I believe it to be a virus of some sort, and a very persistent one - harder to get rid of than Symantec software...
