Safe and sound and except for being wore out with legs like rubber and my ass trying to get some blood back, I'm good.
To answer a question from my previous thread about where I went off to: I rode a bus from Marietta, GA to Springfield, IL where my Uncle Jim (Mom's brother) was waiting. We were almost 2 full hours late.
The purpose of trip was to have a service for interring my Mother's ashes next to her father's grave. Plus I haven't seen most of them in at least 30 years or so. Besides the real purpose of the trip, we had complete unadulterated blast.
My 2 Uncle's, Jim and Greg, took me out their American Legion for much merriment. Jim "warned" me I would love these people and he was right. And, they took to me just like I was one of their own. They picked on me right away like they had all known me forever. Of course, to be half Palmer and the 2 Uncles are "real" Palmers (like was/is). Jim kept introducing me as "my long-lost-nephew Eric".
Turns out my cousin Jimmy (Jim Jr.) works for a guy I knew in high-school - Joe. Turns out Joe now owns several businesses and a lot of rental properties. Jimmy came by one day reporting that Joe remembered quite well and wanted me to come back out to the bar - so I did. Lord knows how many drinks I didn't have to pay.
I'll have to spend some time to fully document this trip. I can't let this memory be lost to the fog of drink and merriment. I met a guy on the trip back today who had some absolutely hilarious stories from his missionary work in Kenya.
I'm glad to be back home! My cat Moose has already giving me the dickens. Of course, I immediately treated him to a slice of his favorite cheese.
Leave it to me have another adventure! One for the books no doubt.

PS: I was gone over 2 weeks. That's the longest I've been away from home in eons.

The service, I think, did more for us, especially me, than I would have thought.
I'm not sure why really. I generally despise that word "closure". But I have to freely admit, I've been a pretty messed up cookie inside since she died in Jan.
Though there was no body per se, the box of her ashes was right in front of me. Perhaps I just needed to see that to really "know it".
I did manage to go spend a few days at my Dad's and got to see brother "Wild Bill" for the first time in over 5 years.
Dad took me out see Granny for a surprise visit. Sadly, she had no clue who I was. I could tell by the look on her face immediately. That was completely heart-breaking to say the least.
Just thought I say all that lest I forget.
More to come later......

The longest trip on a bus that I ever had was from Toronto (ON) to Edmonton (AB), something like 3000 km. Those were my first days in Canada, all was new... it took two days and two nights to make it to the final destination. I was really happy to sleep on a flat bed after that 😉 (despite the fact the bed was short and one of the roommates was snoring like a bulldozer)

Thank you HAL!
Quite appropriate given my moniker here.
Thanks guys.
.... now what for supper?
I'm thinking to just order pizza. I already got the beers.

Don't ever leave here, old brother.
Your tales of life and adventure are always interesting, usually fun and sometimes touching.
Go with the pizza. Hope you got ENOUGH beer, though.
I wish I could buy you one,
Don
Thank you Don
I find it oft times helps just to write about it.
Sometimes just to share the fun - and we had plenty mind you - and sometimes just to get it off my chest.
I generally delete the touching posts before I click on post. It's just enough for me to get it out even if no one hears.
I joked with my sister (the Dr.) recently before the trip that a cardiologist and a psychiatrist would have a hey day with me recently. We laughed but she knew inside I wasn't really joking.
Unless God sees otherwise, I plan on being around for some time. That includes here at beerleg.

Family is important, sounds like you need to schedule another trip to visit next year. I know it is difficult sometimes to make it work with $ and things we think we "need" to do at home.
Turns out, sometimes we actually "need" to just drop all our worries and take an extended break from the normal stresses we all experience from day to day.
I've learned that if something is fun...a barb-Q...camping trip...hunting...even wood cutting, I have tried to make it a yearly thing, something to look forward to. Best part of it is, with practice, the fun gets better every year.
