Going to miss the winter views. Headed to Fernly NV, Pensacola FL, and Boone NC. The only reason I leave is to visit family for the Holidays. I??m sure you can see why. Lol

Fernley, NV - garden spot of the west ?????ÿ
?ÿ
you got kids and family members that are Naval Aviators?? you just check boxed every one of the air stations along that route...fernley is a suburb of Fallon top gun....it's their next claim to fame beyond the Garden spot distinction and Amazon...
???? ?????ÿ
suburb of Fallon
Lol. I spent a year in Fallon one month. The base MP's confiscated our GPS base and it took the rest of the day to get it back. The jets flying overhead were awesome, though.
I??m going to Fernley to set up a Canal job. My daughter and son-in-law live in Pensacola. He is a Marine pilot and flew C-130s.
He??s finishing up as a flight instructor. It looks like my oldest grandson may be following in his fathers footsteps.
I spent years of my life working out of hotels across Nevada. Funny thing, some of the coldest and snowiest work I've done was south of I-80 and East of Fallon.
Also some of the most mild and enjoyable time too.
?ÿ
have a great time, I have probably been where you're going and know it's always an amazing desolation to enjoy.?ÿ But it's no Alaska for sure. Bon Voyage!!
I was doing a geophysics survey for magnetic modeling east of Fallon, west of Austin.?ÿ
Boss wanted us to stay in Middlegate. No electricity except for generator.
there's a whole pile of stories on that stay alone.
But,the coolest story I started telling was the time I was out walking around with nothing but me and the breeze in the playa.?ÿ I hear an easily sexy detectable sound of an F16 (Viper) easing up on the throttle and doing a below 500agl circle of the entire valley.
I stop and pause the data collector and start to watch this Sky Blue Cloud pattern painted like an SU29 aggressor squadron pilot loiter in his elliptical track and hear him light the AB at the distant tangent and start accelerating towards me, all below 500agl and closer to 200 as I'm scaling the rocks on both sides of the valley.
As he's approaching rapidly, he pulls back on the stick and goes supersonic and the air explodes in the vapor cone he punches through and disappears over the ridge behind me about a half mile away...
I was scared and pissed and exuberant at the same time.
Then I hear the significantly less loud but deeply thudding sonic booms of the student pilots he was waiting for below their radar as they all jumped in with pursuit of the SU 29 aggressor.?ÿ?ÿ
I saw lots of that in the areas north south east and west of Fallon.?ÿ They even run soviet painted trucks with faux missiles and guns around for target tracking and I'd exercises.?ÿ Fun times in the salt flats and valleys of Nevada for sure.

THRAC OVER.

@jitterboogie spent a few nights in motels across Nevada and a few under desert sky.?ÿ Mostly east of where you were and Winnemucca to Wendover and South of to LV.?ÿ Had a sabbatical archeologist professor (dept head from Berkeley) accompany us - he started the day with a beer.?ÿ Always had a botanist, ecologist, anthropologist, archeologist in the field with us as on government land.?ÿ Checkerboarded in places.?ÿ My favorite town was Ely and the hot springs in the middle of the desert.
@hpalmer?ÿ
That's a neat place, north of highway 6 on the way to Eureka.?ÿ I don't tell people exactly how to get there to keep it less popular. ?????ÿ
