here in the NW cor of Tarrant County (Ft. Worth is county seat) we had a little earthquake about a week ago that was centered about 2 miles south of me and regisgtered 2.6. had some shaking and rattling but nothing severe.
had one at 1:54 pm today that was about 10 miles west and registered 3.0 with what i suppose would be called an aftershock about an hour later.
very interesting and makes me wonder if the pin cushion effect of gas drilling and fracking is helping out with the production of these shake ups. most of wells around here have a pretty good distance between them but when they can go a half mile or more down and the same out and around it kinda makes you scratch your head.
on another but semirelated subject...as i said, the wells here are spread out. if you want to see a cluster F of wells, check out Big Lake, TX on Google Earth. my cousin is working rigs out there and stays plenty busy as you can tell by the landscape.
The swamp critters did not cause that enormous sinkhole in South Louisianan, that is for sure.
I remember when over 20 acres sank in west Grand Saline in the late 70s at the site of an old mine.
Very long time ago here in Cass County, an entire drilling rig sank into a hole at
32°56'08.2N
94°30'38.5W
😉
getting fun now
the pin cushion effect strikes again...
we had another shaker at 2:30 am this morn. about 3 mi's NNW from my abode. registered a 2.8.
good thing my ritual restroom visit happens about then or i might have missed it. :-$
the reason that this is interesting to me in a sick sort of way is that in all of my 57 years in the Metromess and 13 years of living in my current house there has never been this sort of stuff.
Texans ain't into shakers.
getting fun now
That was about 2km west of my parent's house which I am currently sitting as mom is out of town. Woke me up at 2:31am and I didn't settle back down until close to 3. Strongest one yet because it was closer than the others.
I would be more suspicious of an injection well, but I don't know of any in the vicinity.
