Do any of you still use a film camera? Would anyone have an idea of what an old Olympus OM1n camera might be worth? I'm not sure if I want to keep it, or sell it. I have researched it on ebay a bit, but thought someone might know.

What about modern cameras; is there an equivalent to the manual, lightweight OM1 a person might get to replace the old film camera?

Thanks, for any input.
Tom

I have a Minolta 7s I shoot with, I think I paid 15$ for it. It's a cheap way to take great photos.

The om1n's that seem to be fetching more than 50$ include some kind of glass. 50/f1.8 or 50f1.4.

As far as something that is going to perform the same, you need a large sensor camera. Sensor size and good glass is whats going to give you that look that you can't get with a tiny sensored point and shoot. I'm not talking about megapixels, but actual physical size of the sensor.

Olympus makes cameras like the pen with somewhat large sensors, but what I pine for is a Sony NEX5N/Nex7 because the sensor is larger than Canons APSC class and the camera is physically small. With the pancake lens, you can put it in your pocket. It takes some amazing shots and has great low light performance. Also can shoot at like 9fps, which is approaching pro DSLR FPS rates.

You can get a pen pretty cheap : http://www.amazon.com/Olympus-E-PL1-Interchangeable-Digital-Black/dp/B0035LBRJO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1345760023&sr=8-1&keywords=olympus+pen

Nex5n is a little bit more money :

Ease,
Thanks for the information. I've got the om1n/up for sale at my garage sale right now asking $100 and one guy said they may take it. It's a/nice machine and I half don't want it to sell. It's nice to know what a modern equivalent would cost.

Hey ease,
I just wanted to thank you for your advice/suggestion on a camera. I researched more about sensor sizes after your post. I ended up finding a good deal on a Sony nex-3 which has the same sensor size as the nex5 and nex7s. (The nex5 and the nex3 are very close to the same camera, but the nex 5 has a magnesium-alloy body, and higher-definition movies, plus is slightly larger doe to a ergonomic grip). I got a decent deal on ebay on a like-new nex3.

anyway, if your still logging on I just wanted to thank you.
