@gary_g Great question and how does one even make a donation from time to time. I have no idea on that.
@gary_g Geezers. I am ignorant lol. I never even knew. I had heard but never really looked for a link to donate. I need to get on a computer when on this site once and a while and really check the site out. Thank you. Such a great site. And great bunch of professionals.
BTW @wendell, how is the fund raising going?
I've been meaning to write a post about that. We're over $2k at this point but I will provide more details soon.
I had heard but never really looked for a link to donate.
It will be a lot more clear soon. I've always kept the donate page pretty obscure because of a self-imposed guilt trip. But the great users here have convinced me otherwise, so it will get easier to donate/pay for stuff.
@wendell oh don’t feel guilty at all. This is a great site and you keep it going so money is not a concern. I am not a billionaire or rich but i have no problem paying back. It is small considering what i have learned here. I am on another forum not surveying related but i pay so much every 3 years or so but it has paid itself back in knowledge when i need it. I usually am on it when something breaks down though lol. Here i am soaking up knowledge every chance i get its a fun learning experience.
Ship Wendell a few bales of hay next time you have a few extra. The UPS driver will love you.
@holy-cow LOL They already give me dirt looks when I block them in with my tractor. I hate to say this but a rookie driver from another company that makes deliveries I had to back her out of my driveway as she almost took out my well head and then a cedar tree. I came up and she was not having a good day. I said maam catch your breath and I will help you no worries.
@wendell OK so I don't know what I did but does the beer legger thingy help keep the site going. I followed the link Gary gave me and got click happy and well I ended up there. Or does donations a separate thing. Just trying to do a small part to keep the lights on.
@olemanriver BeerLeggers was my first attempt at monetizing the site (other than advertising). It never got momentum simply because I jumped the gun -- was trying to offer a premium membership of sorts but didn't have the premium features to offer just yet. RPLS.com will have definite benefits for a premium membership, but they may not all be available on day one.
So yeah, it all goes back to SC/RPLS no matter which one you choose at this point. It all helps, and it is very much appreciated. But the whole thing is going to change after the move. I'm still working out all the fine details, but I do plan to offer something special to Supporters and BeerLeggers once we get over there and the dust settles a bit.
@olemanriver No worries at all. 🙂
The premium membership plans we plan to offer will actually be cheaper than the current BeerLeggers membership. I'll be looking for a way (or ways) to somehow make that work for you once we get moved.
There will be other ways for the site to start supporting itself. One of those ways will involve better opportunities for vendors/advertisers to get involved and to better market their businesses here -- and at less cost than the current advertising prices -- without making the site a free-for-all of flashing banners, popups, etc. The last thing I want is for the site to become one of those clickbait type sites.
@wendell sounds great. I am not to worried and understand things will change as you transition us. Maybe i can follow holycows advice and send you a small square bale and hide some white lightning in it for you to relax in the evenings . All is good for sure.
I've always kept the donate page pretty obscure because of a self-imposed guilt trip
Guilt don't pay bills. I'd plop this right on the front page.
