Hello all, I’m just starting to dabble in scanning and trying to figure some stuff out… that being said, I’m also a Trimble guy, but have a friend who’s let me borrow their Leica MS60.  However, they have no office software and I can’t view any point cloud/scan data with any of my existing software.  Doing research on Leica’s options, what does everyone prefer for the office side of scanning with Leica MS60?  Infinity? Cyclone? Cloudworx? (I’m slightly leaning toward cloudworx simply because I can use civil3d with it, I hope).

any guidance would be a plus before either I or my friend, spends the money on one of them.  I can only trust salesmen so much on any guidance so I’m looking for reliable reviews and recommendations.

thanks all.

Hey there! Great to see you're getting into scanning, especially with a powerful tool like the Leica MS60.

You're definitely on the right track doing your research before investing in software. Here’s a quick breakdown of the options you mentioned, along with some insights that might help:

1. Leica Infinity

The MS60 is mainly utilized for processing survey data, with a particular focus on total station, GNSS, and scanning applications.

It is excellent for merging conventional survey information with scanning handling tasks, and exporting to CAD.

However, it is not suitable for extensive point cloud manipulation or modeling.

2. Leica Cyclone

The Cyclone REGISTER 360 is an excellent tool for aligning, refining, and converting data into multiple file formats.

The Cyclone REGISTER 360 software excels at point cloud registration, data clean-up, and format conversion for seamless export.

This option is a good one if you are interested in handling, organizing, and preparing scan data for use in future modeling or import into CAD systems.

The complete Cyclone package may come at a high cost and requires some time to learn.

For those intending to stick with Civil 3D and improve efficiency, the ideal choice would be combining CloudWorx with REGISTER 360. REGISTER 360 provides accurate and organized point clouds, while CloudWorx enables you to carry out your tasks within the familiar software environment.
