This has probably been asked before, I apologize.
So say someone starts a post, call him "HC".
And say I am one of the first few replies.
I asked to be notified by e-mail of replies to my reply post.
But I do not get e-mail updates of others' replies to "HC"'s original post.
Is there some way for me to get e-mails when anyone posts to a particular thread?
Or do I just have to rely on my own brain to remember to check back on that particular post later on?

The RSS Feed link at the bottom left can probably be used to accomplish your goal. I use it to create bookmarks that show me when a site has updated (Dilbert for example), but I think it can be directed to other programs as well.
