I don't like the thought of censorship, even when the post being censored might be something ugly about me.
I don't understand why P&R can not be optional. If you don't like it, keep it turned off. If you are a part of it, then don't cry when you get burned.
The only censorship should be when P&R overflows it's boundary into the other threads. But some criteria needs to be established as to what exactly makes a post political or religious in nature. I would argue that the mere mention of a name (i.e., Barack Obama, Jesus Christ...etc) does not make a post political or religious, but that there has to be a supporting arguement of some kind
Then you can start your own message board and make your own rules.
Arguing about the pool rules will only get the lifeguard to kick you out before you get you feet wet.

Simply mentioning the name doesn't necessarily mean it's a political post. However, mentioning that name AND stating an opinion about that person, that's a whole new ballgame. You've just brought your opinion into the picture, making it political.
You could say the same about a surveying thread where someone mentioned a sports figure and then made some snide remark about him. An otherwise surveying-related post has been tainted with something that is purely unrelated. However, P&R is a much more volatile subject, so it needs to be handled with care. The surveying/sports example above may not cause anyone to derail the thread into a sports thread, however it can be proven that the same is not true with a P&R-tainted thread.
Lol, not trying to piss off the "Lifeguard".
Just trying to understand the thought process behind the decision.
Maybe all that is needed is a detailed explanation of what is going to be considered to be "personal attacks" from here on out, and assurances that these new standards will apply to EVERYONE regardless of any current friendships. That was a problem on the old site, and some of those offenders may have assumed that they could get away with it here too.
Perhaps it would be nice to know who have already been

Exactly. And when one threatens to "blow our brains out" (or any other threats) just because of a stupid political argument that we as moderators didn't take sides on, well, then it is time for the permanent ban to go into place.
It's also ridiculous and extremely childish to try to inflict such threats upon us (or anyone else for that matter) just because one does not 'agree' with one another on a topic, whether it be politics, religion, surveying, etc...
What ever happened to agreeing to disagree but still getting along peacefully????? :-/

Congrats on the 17 years of marriage.

Today is my wife's birthday. She turned 17 when you got married. 🙂
Angel
My wife's birthday is Friday.
I won't say her age because I would like to be able to enjoy my weekend.
Dan
Tell her happy birthday and remind her of years gone by, just for personal enjoyment.

If it's okay with you, I'll use that exact phrasing in a couple of minutes when I see her after work.
