For some reason the term "box of loot" as described below has a really nice ring to it. It reminded me of the annual Christmas present for each of my three grown daughters that was affectionately known as "box o' crap" for many years. This year it became the "sack o' sh**", except they had to admit there was no sh** in the sack.
Their Christmas "boc's" were nearly identical and full of all sorts of stuff that I got for free somewhere. The local banks are normally good for a variety of calendars, notebooks, ink pens, pencils, apples, oranges, pocket organizers, windshield scrapers, coin purses and similar stuff. Other local businesses frequently put out similar freebies that might just come in handy, like mini-calendars, pocket-sized penlights, frisbees, large drink cups and such. Some years I'll actually toss in a few small purchased items so as to not look like a complete cheapskate. That's not that big of a concern because I always hand them some green, rectangular, paper-type stuff with nice big numbers printed on them at some point during our time together. No one else sees that happen.
