I started a thread on January 14 on Made-up Descriptions in PLSSia. About 3 or 4 hours ago there had been 660 views of the initial post. Now it is up to 724. That is incredible for several reasons.
One being that over 700 views of a specific post seems almost unbelievable. Another being that there have been 64 views in 3 or 4 hours on a post that is five days old already. I'm set up to watch for new threads. I would not normally ever post to a thread that was started five days earlier. Apparently, a high percentage of users have set up to have any new post pull that thread to the top.
The only reason I even noticed the response to this thread was that JB Stahl had posted this morning to that thread and I wanted to see what he had to say.

Carl Correll's post starting a thread about Why I Hate People currently has 1050 views. It is also five days old.
I'm amazed!

Btw....you in need of any equipment? If so we can chat about it on FB...tonight.
Well ... there. I "refreshed" ten times and gave you 10 more views ... 😉
Up to 826 right now. I find it hard to believe that this is really happening.
Now 867
No way, Jose.

Your post reminded me to go check a thread I started on the CLSA Forum a couple of months ago. It's up to 14,114 views and 376 replies. There have been no replies for almost a month but the view count continues to climb. As Evan reminded me today, you never know who's reading this stuff. A few weeks ago, a non-surveyor client told me he had been following a thread on one of these boards, can't remember what it was about. Weird.
Wow
I'm betting it wasn't about something like mowing your head or jonesing for a pasty.
Wow
Map vs. Monument
Wow
No, I tried the subject over here and decided it was more of a CA topic. It's about at what point an original undisturbed monument could be considered a gross blunder and be rejected in favor of recorded map dimensions. I'd say the replies are about 50/50 whether that could ever happen. Maybe not as entertaining as Dave's hair, but it got people talking.
Wow
The head mowing thing got way more activity than I expected. I figured one or two replies and it would die.
I guess it hit a nerve; I don't know the formula for what will take off and what won't.
Wow
I can't remember the last time there was a good hair thread before that. It's something everybody's interested in one way or another, I guess.
Wow
At least it's not about eating a pasty off of a mowed head.
Wow
I can't believe nobody's posted anything about the other kind of pasty. Maybe they have by now, I haven't checked lately.
It's quite possible. We typically see between 13,000 and 18,000 (sometimes more) page views each weekday for the whole site. One reasonably popular thread could easily attain 1,000 page views in short order.

And this is why I bump certain threads like the ones asking for help or info on stuff. Sometimes it takes me 2 days, sometimes 2 months, but if that is what it takes to get answers to those particular threads then so be it. 🙂
You guys deserve that and I will do my best to help in whatever way I* can. 😉
