Let us assume here that Trimble R8 as the highest model has no restrictions to work interchangeably as a base or rover. But in order to transmit, the R8 receiver (its transceiver in fact) must have the transmit frequencies installed.
Without it will be able only to receive.
This is done using Winflash Supervisor software.
Until you do that, it will not be possible to start the base.
R8-2 is an ancient receiver. The latest receivers will blow your mind for productivity.
But The R8-2, without a certain firmware upgrade, cannot use CMRx format.

Thank you! Very Interesting! I updated everything with WinFlash to latest possible version. I also sow that there are some special radio updates in addition for special for receivers ones, but still no success. Probably the local service can do more. As I know their WinFlash versions have much more functionalities. Bellow are part of update documentation and settings i made with WinFlash.
This happens somewhat regularly on the R8s I use which is irritating. I power it off and back on (sometimes a few times) and that usually fixes it.
