Is it possible?

Our field crews use Leica instruments. However, we also have a topcon Hiper laying around collecting dust.

Can we utilize the Hiper as a base station for the Leica?

Yes, you will need to match protocols along radio frequency and settings. UHF radios are common with both labels. SpreadSpectrum not compatible.?ÿ

Also, to get the most out of the setup, your base has to be tracking the same constellations as the rover. If the Hiper is not tracking as many as the Leica units, you're going to see decreased reliability and slower initialization.

My answer was a bit simplistic because we don't use radios, our RTK observations are done almost always over cell. Our base units have sim cards (usually Trimble R10, but I use an external cell modem for my Trimble Alloy), but of course that won't work in an area with no cell coverage. Almost all of the projects we do are too large for easy radio coverage. I might use radio for a small area topo, but we don't do hardly any of those.?ÿ

Which brings up a question...how many use radios versus how many use cell for RTK??ÿ

we mix and match instruments.?ÿ we use cellular for rtk when available and radio when not.?ÿ We also use radios when far from base.?ÿ ?ÿWe do not use a network rtk service.

NTRIP via cellular for urban settings where radios have limited signals,

?ÿ

@john-hamilton

I prefer to use GSM to transmit RTCM data but when I'm out of cellular coverage I switch over to UHF.?ÿ I can get out several miles with the internal UHF in my GS16s.?ÿ When the need arises I have a 35 watt repeater that I add into the mix.?ÿ In the past I utilized spread spectrum but the GS16 did not come with that option so I ditched all of my repeaters.?ÿ I'm going to need to find a workaround for the GSM base when 3G disappears next year.

I have a potential client that currently has total Stations and Rovers from Geo max running X-PAD software are any other brands compatible with Geo- max software?

Would the Tersus GNSS receivers be suitable? As trying to set up projects with multiple brands of GNSS

Pretty sure GeoMax will work with Stonex

When mixing bands of base and rover you really need to make a good elevation check part of your early testing. I have had issues mixing Leica and topcon in the past. You can work around it, but only if you know up front..

It's possible both for network rtk or radio rtk.
