Ever since the fire at LSU Tuesday night, I've had off and on connectivity problems to the C4G VRS network. I believe it has something to do with their backup server. I can connect and get a mount point list, but the selections are different than the primary server. When I select a mount point, as soon as initialization is gained, my Trimble R2 receiver reboots. I was told by C4G staff that this is a known Trimble bug. Anyone have any suggestions for me? I really need to use VRS today and no one is at LSU for support.
downgrade receiver firmware?
It's a new model with the initial firmware released.
Thanks. I did see that. I'm working with Randy Osborne right now. He thinks he knows what's going on.
Updating to the latest firmware worked. Updated from my iPhone in the field no less!
Turns out their primary server, which went down, is running an older version of the RTN software, while the backup server is running a pre-release version of the RTN software. Apparently the older receiver firmware had issues with the newer RTN software. Go figure
I think we ran into that same issue. They had a rough week over there last week; first the login server was down, then the primary server, and on Saturday we had a crew that was getting in but wasn't initializing. Hopefully Randy has it all sorted out; I think he took his phone off the hook Saturday lol.
This kind of stuff is definitely not the norm, we very rarely have any trouble with Gulfnet.
Yeah Saturday probably was not fun for them. Glad the firmware update fixed my issue. But updating the receiver firmware in the field only using my iPhone was tricky! The R2 has a web configuration interface via wifi. But once you connect to it, you no longer have Internet. So I had to download the firmware and save it to Dropbox. Then connect to the receiver and go to the firmware update page. Turn off wifi so I could connect to Dropbox to get the file. Then enable wifi to connect to the receiver to upload the firmware. Very tricky.
