There are some pretty good deals on Trimble equipment on eBay. I've heard that Trimble puts a block in the equipment they sell abroad so it can't be used in the US. Is this true? Can you pay Trimble to remove the block?

I bought a trimble 6000 a few years ago on ebay that was from china, registered it through my rep and paid for updates (for newer firmware) nothing about china was ever mentioned by them or me. I would be a little careful with the *new* items as they could be copies and not original. I was told the copies do not have the trimble s/n just the model

I've bought and sold a lot of foreign Trimble gear and have never run into something that didn't work in the States. Are you looking at GPS or a conventional instrument?

For RTK GPS, It may be the radios and/or radio frequencies that may cause you trouble. As I understand it, there is GPS equipment coming into the US from China that were manufactured for use in China. The radios and there frequencies were specifically designed for China and are not approved for use in the USA by the FCC.
If you are simply using the device as a rover on a RTN/VRS, you shouldn't have any issues. But if you plan to setup your own base station broadcasting corrections to rovers, you will likely have issues. BTW- This issue is not limited to Trimble.

Its a Trimble R10 setup with a ridiculously low price. The data collector is setup in Spanish, which I understand isn't a big deal to change. However I've heard Trimble Geofences their overseas equipment so it can't be used in the US.

A ridiculously low price on equipment from overseas is a great big red flag. Be very careful so that you don't get burned.
