In an earlier thread, Nate suggested, "***Maybe it's time for a friendly Leica/Java shootout!***"?ÿ I will assume he meant "Javad".?ÿ So, just to check others willingness, I'll offer a test at altitude or is that with attitude!

I've surveyed a few corners in a challenging area (mostly in getting to the corners, not obtaining good coordinates).?ÿ A handful are under conifer canopy, and another small percentage have obstructions and/or possible multipath conditions.?ÿ My equipment is Leica and I have both RTK and static observations made with the SR530, 1200 and GS-14/GS-15 instruments.

I'd be happy to compare my results to anyone with Javad, Trimble, IG8 or Topcon instruments.?ÿ There will be some discrepancies between my positions and what someone accepting my challenge will obtain.?ÿ That is due to the fact that some stones are ambulatory witnesses to the corners.?ÿ In other words, some stones have horizontal velocities of 0.15 to 0.16 ft./yr.

Any takers??ÿ All I've heard so far is how well Javad works underneath trees.?ÿ NOBODY has made any claims about how well it works above the trees.?ÿ If so, please send me a private message.?ÿ The biggest plus, other than comparing the results is that the great majority of the corners are original stones (93 stones marking 102 corners, 1 bearing rock (stone has slide down a ravine), and 6 stones that are rectangular survey PLSS corners).?ÿ An aside, none of the six PLSS rectangular corners have any value to determining the boundaries of the parcels.

The test site consists of 19 parcels (total acreage is 185) and there are 21 parcels that either abut, overlap or were tied to in the original surveys.?ÿ The most challenging "positions" are two bearing rocks near the base of a north facing cliff where my Leica 530 gear had difficulty getting a lock.

P.S.?ÿ Since Don's thread is [temporarily] closed, this is a simple retracement/dependent resurvey of mineral lands common across the Western States.?ÿ Easy-peasy except for the detrimental effects of anoxia, which can create a euphoric mental state that may tease a surveyor to opine on how simple the surveying is.

The photos below are 3-D drapes of NAIP imagery.?ÿ The red outline shows the areal extents of the property and the blue lines show the boundaries of the 19 overlapping parcels.

Viewpoint is from Loveland Mtn. looking east.

Viewpoint is above the Paris Mill looking north.?ÿ The high spots are the 14teeners Mt. Bross, Mt. Cameron, and Mt. Lincoln.

'Easy-peasy except for the detrimental effects of anoxia..'
