Back in the '80's Wild was the premier instrument maker in the World and was producing some of the best electronic theodolites ever made - specifically the T2000 & T3000 series. In the day, the T3000's sold for between $30,000 - $45,000 dollars and many went to work in industrial sectors.
A heavy user of the instruments was the aircraft industry so many of these spent their life indoors and were well taken care of. Well, fast forward and these were eventually taken out of service, put in storage, and in the last couple of years sold on the surplus market. They sold cheap because almost all of them were "dead" because the internal memory battery was dead and there were no accessories or manuals. If you called Leica about service most of the service shops would say "sorry" and those that might consider servicing them said they would go to the bottom of the heap per instructions from Leica and they might get around to them sometime.
Well, I was still curious and bought a T2000 and, lo and behold, it worked - although the internal battery was probably at the end of its service life. So then I bought a T3000 and it too worked, but not the next three I bought. One T2000S worked, another didn't. So, I had three out of seven that worked and four that didn't work. This is not good.
So I started looking around to see about getting them serviced and finally found a retired Leica guy that still worked on instruemnts and was willing and happy to work on the T2000 & T3000 instruments. I took mine to him along with seven more for a couple of friends a couple months ago and picked them up on Friday. Out of my seven he got 6 renewed and one was determined to be dead - or atleast it would have cost more than I was willing to pay to get it fixed.
Here's a picture of one of the T3000's:
The T3000 is a very high quality gun and its specifications put it right up there with a T3 and approaching the specs of a T4. And the optics - oh my! The pan-focal telescope is amazing. Internal, electronic horizontal & vertical collimation. And an internal leveling sensor that will let you level to the magnitude of one second. I have personally turned angles in my basement to 0.2 seconds - and I can do that repeatedly.
So at any rate, what all did he do to these instruments?
- Change the internal battery and reinstall all the instrument constants
- Clean and lubricate as needed
- Computer adjust the bubbles, electronics, collimations, optical plumb, etc.
- Replace missing or defective parts
- Perform Leica test requirements
So now I have a working T2000, a T2000S, and four T3000's. I need four T3000's like I need a hole in the head so I'm looking to sell 3 of them. I'm not looking to retire on them, but I would like to sell three of them at what I think is a reasonable price. I will sell the following packages:
- A T3000
- Case for the instrument
- External battery cable
- Newly recelled GEB70 battery
- Battery charger
- Copy of the "short instructions"
- Copy of an owners manual
The cost will be $1,800. If you're interested contact me at:

That is a heck of a temptation, for a old retired guy, that probably would never use.
Is it possible to get his contact information?
I have a couple of instruments that i would like to get worked on.
Thanks in advance

Edit: Oops, just dawned on me. You're looking for the repair guy contact. I hesitate to put his info in the public here, but if you'll send me an email describing what you have and what needs doing I'll send it on to him.
Dave, how much did it cost to replace the internal battery?
