I have recently purchased a Wild T2 and a Striding Level to go on the instrument. I am looking for the mount and the two screws that attach it to the inside of the stanchion to stabilize the level. This mount attaches to the stanchion with two screws and has a vertical hole in it that is estimated to be 1/4 inch in diameter (it is almost certainly a metric measure). If someone has a Wild T2 with this attachment point and would be interested in selling it to me, I could probably send you the screws out of my T2 to replace the ones removed with the mount. I can probably fabricate this part but it won't be "pretty".

A photo of the Striding Level mount is at this link:

Thanks,
Tim Hiebert

If no one has one for you, I can place one on Shapeways for printing in brass. I have one and could measure and model it in a few minutes. You would have to find your own screws as printed screws would suck. I will be able to tell you size and pitch

Dear Norm,

What an interesting idea! About what would it cost me for you to make one? I have watched the 3D printer at the vet school in Mississippi that they are using to print plastic bones and 3D reconstructions of spine lesions for the neurosurgeons. I am "retraining" and am currently a "older" 3rd year vet student.

I haven't printed something close to that size in brass, jewelery only so far. Guessing by the size, I am thinking $30 to $35 and I could be high, probably not low

Re-read your question, most of the cost is the printing. I will tack on literally a couple of bucks just so I can track when one is ordered. You order it from them and have it shipped straight to you. I am well aware that it is a market of one, but, if I can help keep these gems operating, I will

I went ahead and knocked it out while reading the news this morning. Much cheaper than I told you. I don't have a pitch gauge at my office and wasn't thinking when I left the house, but, I can tell you they are M2.5 and 5mm long. Here is the link http://shpws.me/vu2M I have opened most of the brass and stainless prints and pure gold if you want to be insane. I also opened up basic plastic for fitting, if desired

You DO realize that it is heinous to place a stainless steel mount on a brass instrument, LOL.

I should have mentioned that brass is a more accurate print process than stainless, but, both will work

Dear Norm,

Incredible! What an amazing way to get custom parts! I have purchased the part for a total price of about $20 in stainless steel. I got the stainless so I won't have to worry about painting the mount. I thin I can get the screws at the local hardware store.

Thank You Very Much! 🙂

They opened up platinum and 18k gold, so, for fun I opened them. Very eye opening pricing!! The platinum is $100 setup and $1750 a cm³, wow. I can't imagine they have much of a market at that

3D printed T2 Striding Level Mount is Done!l

I ordered the T2 striding level mount that was kindly drawn by Norm Larsen and ordered from Shapeways. It arrived in about 10 days for only about $15 delivered. I got the stainless steel one (cheaper and it matches the chromed knobs on the instrument). Norm tells me that the brass version has higher tolerances when being printed.

The part arrived and the holes were a bit rough and the screws and mounting pin on the striding level would not quite fit. I used my CRKT Veff diamond serration sharpening hone ( http://www.sto-usa.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=VEFF1) for about 30 seconds on the striding level mount hole, and a few seconds on each screw hole with a round Swiss pattern file. I promptly dropped one of the metric 2.5 by 5mm screws and it fell into a parallel universe before hitting the floor. I ultimately had to order some replacement screws (could only get phillips head from the source in this size) and got it all together!

Many thanks to Norm for providing the drawing. I am making a donation to the web site since you all have been so helpful.

Tim, glad it worked for you and from what I gather it is a hard to acquire item. I am going to leave it up there thinking that someone else might want one. Can I use your picture on Shapeways?

My brother just dropped mine thinking it was all together and not just placed into a hole. The shaft is broken now for the handle on top. When I am done being pissed, I do realize it is an easy assumption, I will be printing some more parts, yeah!

Yes, you can use the photo for the Shapeways post. Yes, looks like an opportunity to print more parts!

Tim I told you that the stainless print is not as accurate as the brass. I received these two today and they exemplify that. Both are an HO scale Ariel Atom print, one is for a pendant for my wife the other is for my key ring. I choose the steel for the abuse that I give anything I deal with daily. Now the gold plated brass is polished, but, so is the polished nickel plated stainless. You can see the graininess of the stainless is just not anywhere near the same amount in the brass.

Now close up photography makes it look much more dramatic than it is.

I see what you mean about the increased accuracy of printing the brass as compared to stainless. Were you able to repair your T2 striding level?
