I am looking at possibly purchasing a used total station. I would like to know if anyone has a good, dependable instrument for sale or knows where there is one for sale.
Thanks
I have this Leica available: http://www.precision-geosystems.com/product/leica-tcr702auto-2-motorized-reflectorless-total-station-atr-egl/?v=7516fd43adaa

I studied them all some 12+ yrs ago.
Concluded that the narrow beam guns were what i needed.
However, that comes at a price. You have to occasionally allign the edm with the cross hairs.
So, narrow beam.
Adjustable allignment.
Topcon "overcame" the allignment problem, by going wide beam.
Of course, my info is "out of date".
And i have not kept up.
But, by using those standards, leica was the only company that made what i needed.
Since then, lieca and everybody has been making longer range reflectorless.
But i suspect that the leica gun is what i would want. I still have that leica gun.
I have not used it in a long time.
Just an out-of-date answer..
Nate
The two main variants of a reflectorless EDM are pulse (time of flight) and phase. Pulse edms are wider and the beam divergence is greater at long distances. A pulse laser measures a distance a lot like a GNSS receiver - by phase.
