Guys,

One of my friends who work in a construction company here in Doha, Qatar informed me that his company is currently selling a lot of USED Surveying Equipments. I went for a visit and literally there is one container van full of surveying goodies for sale.

I wrote this because I am wondering if any of you guys is interested to buy a slightly used Trimble S6 robotic total station (see attached pics). just in case somebody asks why I don't buy it myself, well that's because I'm already negotiating with a slightly used Leica TCR 1201+ total station and a Trimble R6 GNSS, and I couldn't afford to buy the S6 anymore.

The company is not providing any selling price, they are looking for the highest offer apparently, however, the German guy who manage the selling of these items told me they will consider a minimum of 25% of the original costs of these items, so i guess that is a bargain for anybody interested.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all !! 🙂

There is no need to be sarcastic, I am not trying to rip you off or scam you in anyway. I posted this topic in good faith thinking that some other surveyor will be interested in those equipments, I am not looking to make any money on this if that's what concerns you.

The seller is a Germany based construction company operating here in Qatar. They recently finished a large housing development project in Doha, but apparently for some reason they were not able to get new contracts so to make the story short they are selling all their equipments, not only surveying ones, but literally all including heavy machinery.

I don't see the antenna on the S-6 that allows the radio to communicate with the TSC2.

Is the internal radio installed? Has it been being used as a total station rather than a robot?

guess I should use the sarcasm font..sorry but there is simply no way to know who the good guys are and it seems suspicious to me..I call them as I see them..I see fake equipment sales on ebay daily, many go like this " I am selling this for a friend" and then you see the same pic of equipment you have seen a hundred times. It doesnt mean this isn't legit and I am sorry you are offended but it is highly suspect.

There is no antenna on that unit, so i guess there are no internal radio installed. It is probable that it was used as a normal total station since it is very rare for surveyors to work solo here in Qatar. When I visited the site I was more interested on the Leica TCR1201+, I just made a quick look on the S6, it appears slightly used and my friend told me his company just bought it within this year. the batteries are discharged as well so I was not able to turn it on and see if it is properly working. However, if anybody is interested on that unit I will go back and test it properly and get some more pics/info.

There are 4 used Trimble TSC2's available, I am looking to buy 1 of those to come with the R6 GNSS I am negotiating. All the TSC2's are working and has Trimble Access installed, but most are already worn out due to frequent use. My friend told me they are selling the TSC2's separately from the total stations. See attached pics below.

They have 2 units of Trimble R6 GNSS, 2 units of Trimble 5800's, probably around 20 units of Leica TC 1203, 1205's, probably 30 units of Sokkia SET230, SET330, SET530, Topcon and a whole lot more of digital levels, auto levels and other accessories.

You'll probably need to provide the serial numbers of all the equipment in a photograph so we can verify the equipment is authentic and not stolen. A photo of yourself in front of the equipment with a sign saying "This is jef221 from the SurveyorConnect message board" would also go a long way.

There have simply been too many scams with survey equipment as has been said.

There is a thin line between being overly suspicious and a paranoid. I myself have transacted many times in eBay buying things in the US & UK, paying thousands of dollars to people I haven't met. I use mainly common sense, research and a lot of communication to avoid being duped. All the while I avoid sarcastic remarks and generally trust the person I transact with. So far it is working ok, there are still a lot of good people around, you know.

Apology accepted. Cheers! 😉

The real problem I see here is that, not only haven't we met your friend, but we're not even dealing with him. We're dealing with a friend of his on a message board, who has second hand knowledge of equipment, and hasn't provided serial numbers or actual prices. An excel spreadsheet with some contact info, including company names and phone numbers, would go a long way if he wants to sell this equipment.

I would be very interested in buying used equipment from a fellow professional at discounted price, I don't need to meet him.. but I need to be dealing with him 1 on 1, and have information that can be substantiated.

I have bought plenty of items online. It is simply not a good idea to buy such high dollar items from an unverified source. Paranoid? maybe. But then again, I always deal direct or with reputable sellers and then I don't have to worry about scams.

tsk tsk so this is what a poor salesman feels like, now I know why these guys sell their stuff way too high.

I don't have the serial number of the S6, but to prove that these items are legit and not some kind of scam, here are the serial numbers of the items I am negotiating to buy;

1) Leica TCR 1201+ SN 870134
2) Trimble R6 GNSS SN 60275-66
3) Trimble R6 GNSS SN 60775-66

Please do me a favor guys and let me know if they are stolen.

Here's the photos;

What are you paying for the R6? If I was interested in buying, what's the next step?

Jef,
Since you are getting some flack about this stuff, perhaps you should give some direct contact information for the seller and let these folks here deal with them directly. That way you don't catch the heat for scam concerns.

I have to say if they are selling everything the project must have been enormous.
There is certainly quite of list of survey equipment you posted.
You also mentioned they are selling off their heavy equipment as well.
I suppose it would be far less expensive to just sell stuff off than to ship it all back home to Germany.

Good luck with your purchases.
E.

Must be as a total station and NOT robotic,
none of the TSC2's in the pics have a radio module installed.

Finally! a remark that don't make me feel like I'm some kind of scammer looking for a quick buck. Thanks 😉

Actually, my plan is if there's an interested guy here who will talk to me in a nice way, I will arrange for him to make his bid to the seller, give him his contact number / email and arrange for some kind of Skype call so he could view the item online. If he and the seller agree on the price, they could either complete the transaction themselves, or if the buyer is trusting me enough then I could represent him on the transaction, receive and package the item and send it to him thru Fedex. All this I will do absolutely free!! I am not a scammer and FYI I don't need to run-off with anybody's money, I am a professional structural engineer working in the Oil and Gas industry here and I am quite satisfied with what i receive.
>

Yes, they built one of the largest housing development projects and probably one of the biggest malls in the world, its called Barwa Mall and Village City.

> There is certainly quite of list of survey equipment you posted.
Yes there is, I didn't bother to ask a copy from them since when I visited them I was only interested on the Leica and R6, it didn't occur to me yet to post the S6 here, I just thought of it when I was in the office this afternoon.

> You also mentioned they are selling off their heavy equipment as well.
Yes, everything they have is for sale. I was told they are looking for some company who will buy these items on a lump sum basis.

> I suppose it would be far less expensive to just sell stuff off than to ship it all back home to Germany.
Exactly! luckily I have a friend who works there and tipped me off on the units, I am currently negotiating with them on the Leica and R6 and hopefully tomorrow I will have the results.

Non-robotic S6? I thought all S6 guns were robotic. If it isn't robotic maybe they should call it the S5.9 or S6- 😀

The one I have experience with was dam sure robotic. In fact I had trouble using it in manual mode. Actually, I had troubles just to get into manual mode. Of course that was probably my lack of experience with it. I had no trouble going reflector-less however.

You are quite welcome Jef.

I have been caught in the middle trying to help someone else out and end up looking like a street hustler trying to make a buck for myself. It is never my intention. In general, I trust people first unless I'm given reason to think otherwise. Right now I'm trying to help a friend sell a firearm. He wants too much for it I think. Kind of funny that same friend owes me a lot of money so I have made him offer to wipe away some of his debt to me and I take ownership of said weapon. Seems like a fair deal to me.
E.

I have never seen one non-robotic, but as soon as I saw that there was no antenna, I knew that one couldn't be. I assume that Trimble makes them for some other market as a "total Station".

I think I made a mistake in describing it as Robotic, after reading some stuff about Trimble S6 it appears that particular unit is the basic model, called Servo. It has MagDrive and all that except for the auto-swinging stuff. Sorry for the misinformation.
