Since retirement a couple years back I still haven't got the survey bug outta my system and after recently attending the NGS webinar "GPS on Benchmarks" I have decided how I can stay involved and possibly help out a bit.
DW and I are transitioning more and more into a RV lifestyle and will be visiting many areas of the country where the geoid model needs some help. We will spend some of our time searching out benchmarks and doing the GPS observations that we will submit to the NGS for inclusion in the next geoid model.
I will use an Ashtech Z-Extreme receiver/antenna for the observations.
I happen to have a couple extra of these systems I am going to sell.
A "bare bones" system consisting of a Z-Extreme receiver, memory card, Marine 3 antenna, antenna cable, download cable, battery cable to connect to your 12v battery is $500, plus shipping, plus 5% commission to Wendell. To substitute onboard battery plus charger add $75. To substitute a geodetic 4 antenna(newer style), add $200. You would need a fixed height antenna pole to complete the field equipment. A tripod would do as well but the NGS, for obvious reasons, prefers the fixed height.
All the equipment has been checked out and is guaranteed not to be DOA. Email me if you are interested or have questions.
For more information on the NGS program "GPS on Benchmarks" just go to their website. I was knocked out by the new (to me) features that are now available to do office research for benchmark recovery.
BTW be sure to check out the webinar as I understand it was recorded and is available on the website.
Happy Trails
:good:
When you are in tourist areas, be sure to check the Geo Cache Recovery avaliable in DSWORLD I have found several benchmarks with that that have not had a recovery filed in the NGS database since they were set in the 30's or 40's but a Geo Cacher had been there and posted pictures on the Geo Cache web site. The recovery part of dsworld is good to. I redid a description the other day and when I entered a distance in kilometers, it put the miles in (miles). I like to use the Theodolite APP on my IPhone to take the horizontal pictures because it shows the position and direction you are looking.
What you get for $775
And what you get for $500 (oh dang it forgot the antenna cable you will get one though)
ALL GONE.... thanks
Sold three through Surveyor Connect and one on eBay.
