I just wrapped up my two final exams for the two classes I am taking through MCC Longview. They were pretty challenging classes taught by Mr. David Gann.
If anyone is needing some upper level surveying coursework, check out their program. It is a good program, and Mr. Gann is a good instructor.
Good Job Jimmy!
Thanks Randy.
It was pretty challenging, operating a solo business, and taking 6 hours this semester. It looks like I ended up with a B in both classes, which I am happy with. It is much harder now than it was back when I was in college.
I am very glad I took the classes. They made me take a look at what I do every day, and I think I might take a look at doing some things differently, and I also have a better understanding of why we do some of the ings we learned from our mentors.
I'm glad it's over though, time for a little time off in the evenings and weekends.

I hear ya there! I have 3 finals this week and then I am finished with this semester. I think I may take 1 class over the summer, not sure yet. I think I need a break.
Good Luck David! I am sure you will do fine.
I was/am really wanting to earn my 4 year degree in Surveying, but after seeing how tough these classes were on top of running a solo practice, I am rethinking that position.
I took these classes to qualify to sit for the Missouri exam, and am glad I did, but it is tough balancing everything and not burning myself out. I have a 2 year degree, and after talking with a friend who runs the surveying program at ETSU, it will take about 4 or 5 years to earn the degree. That's a long time.
It is a long time when you talk about it but, to quote my mama,
"In 5 years, you can either have a degree, or you can still be talking about it taking 5 years to get one".
I have an Associate of Science now, and at my current pace, I will graduate with a Bachelor of Applied Science in Land Surveying/Geomatics from Great Basin College in the spring of 2015. I am 2 years closer to that goal than I was 2 years ago.
I have discussed transferring to ETSU with Jerry Taylor (director of the ETSU Surveying and Mapping program) but if I decide to do that, it will be next year after I complete the classes at Great Basin that ETSU doesn't have online.
It is tough to balance everything. I don't run a business, I am planning one and trying to put everything in place to make that happen, but I do work 50 hours a week and have a wife and daughter. It is a great challenge. Think about the rewards.
Good luck.
