Yes, I used the convert slant height for all my HI by measuring to the notch. For the prism I use your method of tilting the target plate(?) perpendicular to the tape measure.

The Power of Star*Net

This point is definitely worth underscoring. The input format of Star*Net, being basically as legible as a field book entry format, is simple to review. The Star*Net input may be archived as a highly legible and intelligible abstract of the field record, a sort of digital field book. I add a few comment lines to further enhance the fieldbook format. A line such as:
# At Spike 301
is the equivalent of the field book set up heading. I prefer to add that for every set for clarity. In the long run, a few comment line notes go a long way to generating a record that is essentially a clean transcript of the digital field book.
I have difficulty imagining why anyone would prefer to deal with data in the funky formats that some programs generate if they had that alternative of using the data in the highly legible (and editable) Star*Net format.

The Power of Star*Net
> This point is definitely worth underscoring. The input format of Star*Net, being basically as legible as a field book entry format, is simple to review. The Star*Net input may be archived as a highly legible and intelligible abstract of the field record, a sort of digital field book. I add a few comment lines to further enhance the fieldbook format. A line such as:

I absolutely agree with you. StarNet data look so slick!! ServNet came with Carlson Survey software. I foresee my usage of LSA perhaps once in couple years or less after this Control network.
I found another raw data editor in Carlson which looks much more cleaner...see screen shot. But still not as clear as StarNet.
I am still struggling to input the lines Norman "remarked." I just don't see how to make the corrections yet.
Btw, I did checkout StarNet website...the Stardard Edition which allow LSA a little over $900.00 Currently, I couldn't justify nor budget the purchase.

This site and its members are really awesome! I would not have got this far without so many doing the "remote mentoring!" In few days it will exactly two years since I formally signed up after lurking for few months. I can't never thank everyone here enough (Angel and Wendell too!
Btw, I think you are on the better path than I am in the learning process. I started with path of "button pushers," you are doing it the traditional way by manually calculating. In the long run, you will have better understanding of the process.
