Why Bother? Programs Are Not Neccessary.

I'm sure similar arguments came out when calculators were new. I can just picture some of the "old-timers" saying that you should be able to calculate everything you need using sine/cosine tables and log tables. 😉

(Actually, despite my remark, I'm generally of the same school. I like being able to calculate what I need with a calculator and no programming. You need to have an understanding of the math behind what software programs are kicking out.)

Hey Larry

You might consider offering the software code for a price for those who already have the calculator as Mr. Bailey refers to. I know I would like having that option if I already owned the calculator and didn't want to buy a brand new one just for the software.

We do sell a book with the code only. But we can't offer the same sort of discount we can on the calculators themselves. The margins for the program book only are too thin to have much of a discount.

In my State and surrounding, they require we show our work. I failed twice using programmed 35. I questioned them, and was told you didn't show your work. Third time I did exam long hand showing every step and passed. Point being is see what your state requires. Many will fail you for not showing the steps, and will give you credit for wrong answer, if your steps/logic is right.

What state is that Stone Hound? Never heard of any state doing that on the timed tests. Now the take home test it makes sense to ask to see your work. But the timed tests, not so much.

As I've said above, no calculator adds to your knowledge. What they can do (if you use them correctly) is buy you time.

Kansas. No multiple choice. They want your answer. I'm testing in Oklahoma in April, and looks easier. My understanding is Missouri follows Kansas. May be a Dr. Elgin thing..)

I have one of your 35's. I always get right answer, but Dr. Elgin wants to see the work. He will fail folks for just putting right coordinates down, without showing steps that got you there. He will also pass folks with wrong answer, if your logic was right.

Interesting. Will file that away for future reference.

Thanks for sharing.

Your products are great. They want folks to know the math. I see both sides..Anyone in Kansas or Missouri should be prepared to show long hand math. Answer is not enough.

Am I understanding this right. In Kansas for the state license exam, you have a fill in the blank test. If you wrote in the correct answer but, the one person grading the exam feels you didn't show enough work, he will mark that question wrong, and if you wrote in any answer but the correct answer but showed enough work he will pass you?

I am more surprised by only have one person having the say over who passes and who fails.
