greetings:
I highly recommend that all US Surveyors review the CFedS course.
I took the course in 2009. I spent a couple months of full time study, a worthwhile effort.
a couple months ago I made a comment somewhere here that I would send my full course package out for the cost of postage.
I sent just out the original printed material and the digital data on a portable device to Stephen Johnson.
I was not able to find any copyright on any of the documents or in my correspondence with CFedS. I wish to share with anybody and everybody.
IF you want to mail me a USB thumb drive I would be glad to copy the data and return it to you, my direct cost of postage is all I ask.
Just send a Private Message and I will coordinate with you.
the files consume 17+ GB of data... so 32GB or larger will be needed.
I did not find the original USB hard drive issued by CFedS but I found the files on my server. this data has not been rearranged, just copied in the original format and directory structure.
The bulk of the course is in a web page format, simply run the file "course_01.html" in a web browser and all of the course work is there...
the sub folder CFedS.2009/documents contains a bunch of pdf files including the whole darn contents of the paper in the binders.
any/most copy shops can print it out for you, but there are about two reams of paper, +/- 1000 pages
over here we pay a bit less than 2 cents a page, printed on three hole paper (for binders), so that would work out to about $20 for you to print it all out.
the CFedS.2009/videos are fun if you like videos... kinda like a Power Point slide show with narrative.
Be well, Peter
Awesome! I might do just that.
I would be willing to do the same as well.
The CFedS material is a virtual gold mine of information in my opinion, if perhaps a bit wordy. I believe the study guide hardcopy is a direct transcription of the video lectures, so that would explain some of it.
If I didn't have my own copy I would jump at this opportunity in a heartbeat...
Actually you should be able to take the CFeds training through DOI Learn. You can take the course and take the quizzes for each section but you don't get to take the final exam and get "Certified", but you will least be able to say you took the course. The cost is $140.
You need to register to view public catalog

DOI LEARN is the learning portal for U.S. Department of the Interior (DOI). Use this public catalog to view the Department of the Interior training opportunities. To search and view courses, click the "Public Catalog" tab above.
DOI Employees should NOT request a new account using the links to the right, your account will be created by weekly upload from our payroll system.
Û¢ You must first have an account in our system to register for training.
Û¢ If, after viewing the Public Catalog, you are interested in a course, click the "Request a New Account" link to the right.
Û¢ The "Reason For Your RequestÛ MUST include the COURSE NAME and the BUREAU that is sponsoring the course you wish to attend.
Û¢ Contractors and volunteers who work for DOI, should use this process to request an account to take required training. We will review your information to be sure a previous account does not exist in our system. Be sure to indicate if you have ever been affiliated with any bureau or office in DOI. ItÛªs important to tell us if you ever have been a contractor, volunteer or an employee of DOI.

.............
sounds like a great deal.
there are hours of videos and a couple reams of printed material, I wonder if it can be downloaded.
anybody know if the course has changed since 2009?
BTW:
we made a quick trip and I got some thumb drives in the mail today. I will copy the data, will bring them to the courier an a day or two.
happy holidays, Peter
the offer still stands, and a slow turnaround is Guaranteed or double your money back

There must've been some changes as the version I received almost two years ago (3.0) is dated January, 2010. They do mention that the restoration of lost corners portion was a third iteration, so that may be at least one of the changes.
Hopefully they did some quality control as many questions were geographically biased.
Has anyone found where you can download the data?
My hard drive should be here any day. Looking forward to tge challenge...
I can't wait until they add the Direct Point Positioning Surveys module :p.
Sorry about the sarcasm... with all of the excellent history, methodology, case law, and practical information provided in the CFedS training it's a little incongruous for BLM to be proposing a system for a relatively small portion of AK where NONE of the CFedS training will apply (maybe researching the record is valid)!
Update: over the last couple years I had some more requests, and the thumb drive method is cumbersome.
the files on my server have been copied into a folder on a Mega cloud drive account.
just copy the entire folder to your local machine and open it.
It is Big! 3,964 items, totaling 17.0 GB (17.0 GB on disk) so it will take some time...
this link should work without need of a password.
this link "should" work:

* run course_01.html in a web browser and all of the course work is there presented in a common web format...

CfedS.2009/videos is fun if you like videos.
I was not able to find any copy-write on any of the documents or in my correspondence with CFedS. Please share with anybody and everybody.

*It is Not my Mega account, it is owned by a partner. He had the folder uploaded for me.
I am not accustomed to using Mega for sharing outside, Jerry says it works fine.
I use the Mega Sync desktop app, it gives the facility of throttling the downloads and uploads so your internet connection is not flooded.
Otherwise all other apps may slow down to intolerable levels.
Do let me know if you have any issues with the download or viewing the data.
My best, Peter
Do I understand correctly that one must create an account and install their app in order to download this data?
For those of you who took the test recently... How much of the materials did you print off for the test to have in hard copy form??ÿ I thought I'd just print it all, but the transcriptions of the videos are probably 70% of the paper and I'm not sure it's worthwhile to print/bind what will amount to several reams of paper.
