I am getting ready to apply for my last (maybe) PLS exam (California). I would appreciate any suggestions for study material and references to have for the exam.?ÿ
Thank you. I purchased the CLSA binder and I'm working through it. I'm trying to find the best resource for water boundaries and seismic.
Don't worry about the seismic
The test is based on the knowledge areas in the test plan. That will give you a good idea of the scope.

Thanks for the plug, Peter.
Bionic, if you aren't able to make it to the conference, or want to start studying water boundaries sooner, send me a PM to provide your email.?ÿ I'll send you something that's good for exam review.
If you want something that is a good full reference for your bookshelf, get Water Boundaries: Demystifying Land Boundaries Adjacent to Tidal or Navigable Waters by Bruce Flushman.?ÿ It's a good general water boundaries reference, although his writing style isn't as straightforward as Cole's, but he also has a lot of CA specific info.?ÿ I think it's the best reference for the surveyor practicing in CA.
Amazon has it new from $153, a couple of used options $99 to $119, or digital for $26.

I very much doubt that there will be anything about seismic activity on the exam.?ÿ CA law is very sketchy about dealing with the effects of seismic activity on existing boundaries.?ÿ The Cullen Earthquake act gives some indication, but it's pretty limited.?ÿ Actual application can vary depending upon the actual surface movement.?ÿ
The legislature has?ÿ more or less put it out of their minds, thinking that Cullen addressed it adequately, but surveyors with decades of experience are still struggling with coming up with some manner of guidelines for the profession to follow.?ÿ In short, it's well beyond a topic to test for minimal competence, so should not ever appear on the exam.
