Ubuntu 10.10, Maverick Meerkat, Now Available

To try it:Download the ISO, burn to a CD, then boot to the new CD.
You can then run from the CD and get a feel for how it performs on your system without installing anything. No changes will be made to your system. If it runs OK (99.9% do) then install it and it will run much faster and any tweaks will remain.
I suggest using the torrent files from down the list a bit.

I’d be willing to try it if it would run Star*Net, TGO, AutoCAD, Access and Peachtree. Without those I’m out of business.
I’ve already installed it on my old Sempron laptop and it runs great. Haven’t gone much further than initial installation yet though.
Your friendly, virtual neighborhood WebmasterMe also Jim. That is why I use a dual boot setup.
I am willing to bet Star*Net will work just fine, and TGO also.
Acad has too much bloat, but v14 works just fine.Try the Live CD method, even the OS running from a CD is amazingly fast and error free… but I always live on the edge, that is how I got to be Rich and Famous! 😉
If you want to install from a USB drive, check out this nifty tool…
http://www.pendrivelinux.com/universal-usb-installer-easy-as-1-2-3/First, you download the Ubuntu distribution you want to install. Then install and run the Universal USB Installer… it will automagically find the distribution you downloaded (after you select the version from a dropdown) and then make your USB into a bootable drive using that distribution. Very cool.
Your friendly, virtual neighborhood WebmasterThey really re-arranged the interface (which needed to be done), but I cant find anything anymore.
STARNET runs great in Wine. The new BrisCAD runs really well in the native Linux; now I just need a way to crunch terrain and cut the occasional profile and cross-section.

Also, you can load the application or an entire operating system designed for kids. It is made for pre-K through high school and includes parental controls including setting up maximum time limits so the kid doesnt become a complete veg.
My 4 year old loves it on my machine. The real beauty with linux is that it is so reasonable on the demands of a computer, you can get an old beater off free-cycle and it will run just fine.

I would love having Linux or this (Is this an off shoot of Linux?) but I am just too much of a chicken to risk it.
P.S. EduBuntu
Yes, it’s probably the most widely-used distribution of Linux.
