Trimble Tribrach quality

Sometimes in the trading of instruments, along the way better tribrachs are kept and replaced by an inferior item to reduce the price.

I have four or five older style Seco tribrachs that are very good and have not failed me and they sit on a shelf because I am using all Leitz-Sokkia tribrachs that I like better.

These are Trimble branded tribrachs. My question is if anyone knows are Seco and Trimble tribrachs made in the same factory in Hungary? I don’t want to replace what I have with essentially the same.

Since Seco is owned by Trimble it is very possible. I don’t consider the trimble tribrachs to be of low quality, but I only use tribrachs without optical plummets.

The Trimble tribrachs are made in Hungary, in the same factory as Leica used to source their tribrachs as far as I’m aware, before they started getting their from Singapore. The thing is that the Trimble tribrachs which they’d include with their robots seem identical to what Leica were specifying as their mid-range tribrach at the time, evident in the foot screw design.

All this said I’m using a mix of Trimble and Leica tribrachs and the results I’ve been getting have been really tight. I don’t think the Trimble robots subject the tribrach to as much torque as the Leica’s because of the magdrives, the traditional servo driven robots seem to have a much more aggressive turning and stopping movement which means you really need a stiffer tribrach. I could be wrong though, it wouldn’t be the first time.
