Trimble SX10 power up/power down weirdness
Here is the process I follow to shut down the SX10 before moving to another station.
1) end conventional survey (data collector)
2) press and hold power button until it blinks rapidly. Then it takes about 20s to shutdown. It takes twice as long if I have an external power source hooked up
When I get to the next station, about 80% of the time it will not power up unless I open and close the battery compartment door (which moves the battery away from the contacts).
Has anyone else experienced this? Minor annoyance, nothing else, but wondering why?

I’ve had instances where I got to a new setup, put in a fresh battery, and had to reopen the battery compartment and (since I have it open) pull the battery up and drop it back in; it always starts after this. Not a common occurrence but I’ve seen it.
To shut down I always go to the instrument functions menu and hit Connection, then End Survey, then Connection again and hit Disconnect. Then I turn off the tablet, then hold the power key on the gun until it blinks rapidly. This sequence seems to work pretty well.

When moving to the next station, I keep the SX10 powered on. I’ve assigned the Connection panel to a function key, then click Disconnect (Instrument/connections). I put the Sx10 in the box and move to next station. This reduces power consumption considerably and it is far quicker to setup on next station. At end of survey, another Function key press disconnect. Function Key, End survey.

Not sure I like the idea of moving the gun with it powered up.

Sales rep told me that most field crews use the battery door as the power button on SX10 and other S series total stations since the power button is awkward.
I had called him because I had a problem (a couple of years ago when it was new) with the SX10 power button toggling the LR and BT communication to the DC (long flash, short flash etc.) and all I was trying to do was turn the thing off…
