Trimble S5 temp and pressure correction.
Posted by david-livingstone on March 18, 2019 at 1:48 pmWe have had an S5 for a few months now and I have always assumed the temp. and pressure are corrected automatically but can’t really find any information that says either way. I went through the data collector and can’t find any settings for it. We are running a new Ranger with TDS software. Anyone know for sure? Thanks.

Going off memory – I think they read pressure but you have to key in the temp

Well on second thought…I can’t find any evidence of them having an internal pressure sensor. The software must simply proffer a default value. We always go with the readings from our Kestrel, anyway.

My problem is I can’t find any place to key in the data, either on the gun or the data collector.

I found the setting in the data collector, it basically turned on the option for the PPM correction when you set the gun up. It asks for the temp and pressure although it appears the gun will give the data collector the pressure.

When you say TDS Software, I’m assuming you mean Spectra Precision Survey Pro. The pdf above is for version 6. Other versions should be similar. If I read it right the software will give different options when attached to an instrument with the internal pressure sensor.
I just talked to my local tech and he said that the S5’s do have the internal pressure sensor.

Yes, it is called Spectra Precision now, which was TDS and is all owned by Trimble now.

Maybe it’s different now… when I was still selling and supporting Trimble gear seven or eight years ago the S series instruments worked a lot better with Trimble Access than they did with Survey Pro.
