Trimble R-10, model 1 vs model 2. Did I make a mistake buying a model 1?
I bought an R10-1 a couple years ago after hearing all the hype about using it under tree canopy, but slowly realized it wasn’t any better than my old Topcon Hiper receiver, other than seeing more satellites. I don’t use a base station, only Florida’s DOT network (FPRN), but I know other guys who are running R12i’s on the same FPRN network and it works great in the tree canopy. I know the R12i is a better receiver, but is this behavior typical for an R10-1 or could I be doing something wrong?
I noticed in the web interface for the R10-1 that all the E5/L5 bands are unchecked by default (and they uncheck themselves everytime the receiver is rebooted), but enabling it doesn’t seem to make any difference. I’m on the latest 4.8 firmware as well. I use Survey Pro while the other R12i guys use Access, so I’m not sure if that accounts for any improvements or not.
