Texas Boundary Case (Spanish Colonial)
Just to try to top the Maryland case James Fleming linked below for literacy and scholarship, here’s a link to a 1966 Texas case that deals with the surveying practices in 18th-century Spanish colonial Texas. Naturally, they were at issue because of oil and gas that had been discovered beneath the land in question.
In particular, the case contains a discussion of measuring practices using the 50-vara cordel , skipping over some unusable land in measuring, and the standardization of units of measurement.
