So- The noob needed some help….
They’d just gotten a new high capacity stapler- thru proper purchasing protocols- and the (mis-matched) staples which they loaded/jammed ( it’s a breech loader) into it and it wouldn’t function/feed AND they couldn’t get the staples out and needed some help- so they came over to the old guy for help- suggesting they wanted me to remove to the retaining clip off the pivot pin so we could lift the handle off and take the staples out.- So I answered in my “Archer”voice and said “Do you want parts flying everywhere?!?!?! – ’cause that’s how you get parts flying everywhere! they I looked it over for a bit and tipped it up and showed them the big spring inside that reset the handle after stapling and explained that between the 2 of us, we didn’t have enough hands or joints in our fingers to put it back together if we opened it – and that other than the 2 picture diagram of how to clear a jammed staple- user maintenance or disassembly wasn’t really encouraged. Then I reached in my desk and dug out a big paper clip and the mini-tool, drew on my body of knowledge from days of old when we used to lace all the field notes together with cotton twine for submittal with the final pay estimate- and fashioned the hook & removed the staples….. #OldGuysRule #MakeDoOrDoWithout #oldSchoolMultitool
