GOT OLD F****HERE WHO DON’T WON’T TO CHANGE.
You’ve just described most of the people here at the top of your voice.
Can’t help you with the SMI Transfer, but I used to link my ’48 and SMI using C&G for DOS. So if you could get hold of a copy of that, even in DEMO mode, I think that (maybe) you could make a transfer.
Carlson took over C&G and there is still a C&G menu in Carlson. Possibly Carlson Survey can do the trick?
Back in the day, I downloaded my HP48 directly into AutCAD. I think it was the 2004 version, but I have slept since then.
You can always use kermit 95 to accept the file on the PC end
As Norman OK said above, Carlson Survey has Data Collectors under the Survey tab, and SMI is one of the options.
That said, I’ve never used SMI nor this routine. These days, I just transfer directly to a USB stick from a Carlson and Leica DC
I have v.7 on CD but no CD slot anymore. I’ll see if I can run one down in the next few days.
I’m surprised to learn that there are any HP-48s still in field use — I would have expected wear-and-tear alone to have retired them all by now.
@jim-frame Those orange environmental cases must be keeping them alive
They are still alive. Mine still works but the only smi card that works on mine is just the basic cogo card. My data collection card finally bit the dust. To many moves around the country and well it got crushed. The 48 still going strong. But I hardly ever use it. I will check through my stash of totes this weekend and see if i have a transfer. But wasn??t that on 3 1/2? disk. I can??t remember that far back. Floppy disk then the little hard disk. Then cd??s I still use cd??s for hanging on the chickens cool to keep the hawks out while the hens lay eggs.
@jim-frame
I interviewed a guy recently and that is what his current company is using using for data collection.
I didn’t hire the guy but I sold his company two HP48s and two environmental cases I had laying around.
Hang the CD’s over the entry door to keep swallows from building nests. Seems to scare them off.
SMI Construction V was my favorite software for construction staking in the 1990??s and early 2000??s. Eagle Point instead of improving it ruined an excellent field surveying software.
