Robert Barcomb, formerly of Austin, TX
For any Central Texas readers who may have known Robert Barcomb: I have learned this evening that he passed away yesterday. I can’t say that I knew Robert extremely well, but well enough to know that he was a character who, doing business under the name of “Arpenteurs”, gave the community of local surveyors a flavor all its own.
Robert was probably an extremely difficult individual to work for, but his office was admirably well organized and the work that he turned out was consistently better than the prevailing standard of the market segment in which he worked.
As far as I know, he was the only land surveyor I have ever encountered who used lime-green plastic ribbon to flag stakes. It will be a while before all that ribbon fades to nothing.
