Pound Signs Used with Surveyors' Registration Numbers
Posted by field-dog on February 19, 2024 at 4:06 pmWhy do surveyors use a pound sign in front of their registration number (e.g., R.L.S. #4671)?

No clue, it’s pointless.
That’s the way to do it, “PLS No. 36793”
I also very much dislike when internal emails tagging me with the @ symbol preceding my email address. Get off the new Twitter, now known as X, and follow tradition.
Maybe it is a hashtag and they want you to visit their site. 😀
Number sign | Meaning & Symbol | Britannica
number sign, versatile symbol (#) most commonly used to preface numbers (e.g., apartment #1) but which encompasses a variety of other uses, especially to tag (or hashtag) posts and messages on social media platforms
Do not use anything but the number with both my surveyor and engineer licenses.
It’s correctly known as an octothorpe.
Geezers it was only a few years ago I had even heard the term hashtag lol. My wife rolled her eyes. I knew it as the number and pound sign. But this site has probably been the only social media site I have actually engaged in. I do a ag forum a little. All these terms are hard to keep up with.

Why do we park in a driveway and drive in a parkway? 🧐
T. Nelson – SAM, LLC12345 LS
12345 S
12345 ES
I do like that system.
I’ve never seen PLS #12345 or PLS No 12345 that I can remember, I know I’ve never seen it stamped on a monument, that’s something I would remember.
Apologies to anyone with that actual number, it’s a really cool one.
What is ES?
LS-Land Surveyor
S-Surveyor (older version you’ll see with early numbers)
ES-Engineer and Surveyor combo
Maybe it’s not the # sign as you see it but a challenge to tic tac toe. lol.
