Carlson, how about Simplicity Survey 3.0 coordinate files
Carlson Sight Survey 2014 is fully capable of using files from a variety of sources including older Simplicity Systems programs
You can recreate the job in the “Sight” Survey environment.
Using Old “Sight” Survey Jobs
Using Old Simplicity (DOS) Survey 3 & 4 Jobs
Using Carlson Survey Jobs
Using C&G Survey Jobs
Using Old Files from Other SoftwareGreat program, have been using it since about 1989. I use it daily. Being a DOS program, running it on an XP machine with 2mb RAM vs running on a Win98 machine with much less RAM, there is no noticeable speed difference. Its not bloated down by a memory hungry GUI. Since I lost the dongle, I’ve been limited to 10,000 points per file and a few of the more powerful – less used – features are no longer accessible. But its fine for the simple work I do which includes very few topos.
I create many SETS in Pacsoft. SETS are a group of points. SETS can be road edges, section lines, building footprints, water boundaries etc, anything that can be created by grouping points you shot. Creating SETS pretty much creates linework. I then export a .dxf out of PacSoft and go to a very simplistic CAD program (DesignCAD) to import the .dxf and finish a drawing.

If you will email me at my email address in this thread, I’ll send you the file and instructions on how to make it run wide open without the dongle.
Hey Kris,
I have bee running this program for years with the dongle. It is really an awesome program. With the last computer upgrade I can only use the lite version (under 10,000 points) due to lack of serial port on new computer.
Finding a way to keep using the full program in the wide open version would help immensely!
Steve,
I have used Pacsoft Civil2000 sometime ago. What kind of assistance do you need other than to access Civil2000 files without the program, please? The only way I knew was to run the program with its dongle and access its database and files. Do you have the dongle for the Civil2000?

I know this is a long shot with this being such an old thread but I work independently for a couple of small shops that still use Pacsoft. Every once in a while a massive topo comes along that surpasses the 10,000 point limit (like my current project). I have the dongle but like others have said there is nowhere to plug it into my newer machine. Kris, hoping you still follow this thread and have this magical file to increase point size 🙂 Worth a shot to ask at least!
For years, I have exported an ASCII file from both COGO and GNSS software at the end of the job, at least you will have the points if you want to import into something else long after the binary archive is useless because nothing will open it.

Kris,
I am new to this forum and certainly glad I found it. Looks like it’s going to be a great place for help and learning. I am trying to use my Old Pacsoft software. I am running a 99′ Version on my Dell laptop running Windows 7. However as you know it does not have the serial port for the dongle. On reading the Pacsoft thread I came upon your post. If you still have the file and instructions and file to bypass the dongle you would make an old man’s day. Since I downloaded I am unable to utilize the Road, Profile, X-Sections, Site and Flow programs. I have downloaded the program several times and get the same results. I’m pretty sure these programs are unavailable due to the missing dongle. I would greatly appreciate your help with this issue.
Thanks Much
@greglynx send me an email and I??ll send you the attachment and instructions.
@kris-morgan Glad to see this thread is still active. I have the files I ran on my old computer, just the lite version (under 10000 points) and it ran fine. New employer and new computer and the files don’t run on this computer (running Windows 10 64bit). I don’t care about anything but using it for boundary calcs. The program will run up until I select a project and it crashes and gives me an error message. Would your attachments you sent above have anything to help with this situation?
Just to relieve anyone’s guilt about bypassing the dongle.
My recollection is that when PacSoft was sold to another company, it was sold to give the buyer some underlying technology/programming. The new company was not planning to sell or support the PacSoft programs so (I believe that the owner/developer’s name was Karen) Karen sent current owners code to bypass the dongle so that customers could continue to use the software far into the future.
I don’t think she wanted all of her and her team’s hard work to disappear – many of us were dependent on Pacsoft’s robust programming. As you see by the comments here – it’s still hard to beat in some ways.
Counseling complete.
@kris-morgan
