It depends on a lot of factors. I have worked as a freelance drafter/survey tech before….specifically ALTA’s and topographic surveys. Before you go that route, I’d suggest the following:
Make sure your freelancer understands the scope of work and your company’s cad/drawing standards.
I wouldn’t have the freelancer do any boundary work, unless you’ve worked with them before (like a former employee).
It’s also best to agree on an all-inclusive price and time table. The price I quoted included everythjng in their scope of work, any revisions the PLS had, and any revisions from client/county within 60 days of completion.
Regular updates from both parties are key. I made sure the PLS knew exactly where the project was in terms of completion, any documents I needed, any problems, etc…
While nothing beats having drafters/techs in the office, outsourcing can be a great idea to handle an unexpected job or work through a backlog. But the key is getting someone you feel comfortable with.
