New field personnel book suggestion
Posted by jawja on January 31, 2019 at 1:25 pmTraining new people and have been asked by them books that will help them (entry level) grow. Any ideas? I am thinking something not complex.

One short book comes to mind. Charles Lawson’s ‘Surveys, Deeds and Title Searches’. Written to introduce the layman to land surveying principles. My copy was the 4th edition (1988) so it is somewhat outdated regarding GPS/TS equipment. One drawing showing an EDM mounted atop a theodolite (the good old days…). Still, the basic principles remain and it is a good intro for anyone.

Start with the real basics with new hires…
All I really need to know I learned in kindergarten
Then move on to the technical data.

For a basic book with examples the Schaum’s outlines are great https://www.amazon.com/Schaums-Outline-Introductory-Surveying/dp

Another title oft not seen nor discussed…” Can you swing a hammer, dig with a Shovel, and Clear brush?” 😉
