Nice. I think I had something similar to that happen with a dentist when I was in school too. I went in for a mild tooth ache, no insurance, but I had a little cash to work with. I ended up having a wisdom tooth with a cavity that was too big to repair so they insisted on pulling it.
I knew little to nothing about medical costs since I never had to pay for them before, but I had heard how they bankrupt families sometimes so I was a little nervous. When I asked the lady how much it would cost I think they quickly assumed I was poor and told me $150. This was about 20 years ago so maybe an extraction back then in a rural farm state really was about $150, but I don’t think so. Anyway, I could afford that so I said alright let’s do this.
I’m actually really curious to know if they cut me a big discount without telling me now that I think about it.
Edit: NM, I googled prices and it looks like an extraction costs not much more than that today so I guess I probably paid the regular price. I just know I was worried about being told something crazy like $3000 and ending up in a medical debtor’s prison. ????
@jitterboogie My nephew was stationed at Fort Benning, Georgia and my sister went to a ceremony where he was given command of a particular section of the training there. The Commanding General of Fort Benning was part of the ceremony and my sister got to meet and speak with him. He gave her a “Challenge Medal” after the reception was over. She proudly displays that one.
As a side note the name Fort Benning will soon go away. I have asked my nephew to bring me a cap or tee shirt with the name on it.

Awesome.
I’m no Ranger but that’s Ft Benning, and those are Rangers.
Rangers lead the way!
I’ll post my coin my cousin gave me.
Thanks for sharing!
Not only Rangers … It’s Airborne School for all branches of military also. There were only 3 of us Marines out of about 90 troops in my class.
Please Don??t Thank Me for My Service

https://www.nytimes.com/2015/02/22/sunday-review/please-dont-thank-me-for-my-service.htmlOf course there is the old Airborne joke that ends with
“So did you jump?”
“A little.. at first”
Roger that.
I’m just a bench sitter, didnt serve but have worked with lots of EOD and combat engineers doing UXO work. a few other buddies in air assault status and they all went through Benning for jump training.
When I was in the boy scouts I wasn’t allowed to go to Benning for rappel training because I wasn’t 12, and I was super pissed ???.
As promised my challenge coin gift from my cousin:
@jitterboogie you better be careful slapping down a challenge coin. If someone was to slap one down a little higher you buy the beer. It can be costly lol. I have not slapped one down in years but seeing yours makes me want to run to the local bar and see how many drinks i can get or have to buy. Those were the good old days.
Ha.
It’s my gift, I didn’t serve so I’m ineligible to challenge anyone,so no slapping down a service coin for me.
I do have a coin I earned for teaching hunter education for more than 15 years, but I’m cool just hanging out watch the challengers and the drinking.
????
The main reason I never considered a Veterans discount is that although, Veterans deserve our gratitude, and generally not a wealthy group, so do other people, teachers, volunteer fire fighters, survey students…. The list gets to long. Better to just charge fair prices and do a good job, and quitly shave a few charges of the bill if the client is a good person who I suspect will struggle to pay.
