MAGNET Exporting/Extracting RAW Data for Single Day
Posted by MS SURV on March 8, 2017 at 7:35 pmIs there a way to export by date? I’m looking to export a single days raw data so that everyday we don’t have to export all the previous days/months/years raw data. It seems risky to keep overwriting the previous raw files, and additionally it leads to very large files. In our TDS ranger we could export the single days information. Thanks.

No, I don’t see how that can be done.
Why do you over write the file? I suggest using the date in your file name and export raw data each day or week if you think you need to.
Are you aware there are backup settings in Magnet Field that the user can define the time interval and number of backups to save. So if you want it to automatically backup the job each day, it will. Tell it to save 365 files.
With larger faster SSD drives available on tablet PC that can run Surveyors software, I don’t see a need to try and maintain smaller file sizes but overwriting each day.

We are printing each day, and have it backed up. We are hoping not to have to start a new job each day. Do you know where, what file/folder, the raw data is stored in? Is there a way to delete the raw data once we export it?

MS SURV,
The Magnet Job File (.MJF) is a database that stores all the data in one file, including raw)
You should read this earlier thread about Magnet Field It describes how Topcon Magnet Field is a Database file and can viewed or data extracted with DB Browser for SQLite or other data apps.

I have been trying out SQ Lite and DB Manager recently. Is there any way to export the data back into the TESLA after it has been modified?

I don’t use Magnet, never have. So I can’t comment specifically. But for years and years I have followed the practice of having a new raw data file for each days visit to a job. Every dc software (Access, Viva, Survey Pro) I’ve used has allowed for other files to be attached and/or imported in some way, and for blocks of point numbers to be exported.

You import points and cad lines, but probably not raw data.
I don’t know if that can be done. Perhaps it can, but it may be illegal, as the raw data should not be altered.

I was hoping to delete the RAW file, but not the points, import the empty RAW data file a be able to rock the next day. I can accomplish this with MAGNET Tools demo version, but not SQ Lite or DB Manager. Personally I have no problem starting a new job each day and/or putting the date in the job name. However, that is not how our company has been doing things for the last 10-20 years, therefore the whole “old dog, new trick” conundrum. Thank you for your input though fellas!
