Funny thing about Writing Legal Descriptions is that it hasn’t been revised in decades and may be out of print. It is also the only one I have ever had stolen from me (ie/borrowed and not returned). Nevertheless it is one of the core books in everyone’s survey library. Google for it and you will find several sources, but it’s not cheap.
Ugh, I’ve had Wattles borrowed and not returned twice – I’m on my third copy $$$.
It’s definitely out of print and might be a little out of date, although I’d say 95% of the book is still relevant.
“…people will come to love their oppression, to adore the technologies that undo their capacities to think.” -Neil PostmanYeah on wattles. It has been out of print. I am with you on borrowing. I hate borrowing just been hard to find one to just buy. Lol. I found one not long ago but it was in bad shape and outrageous asking price.
The NYSAPLS Bookstore has it for $80.
You may want to check with the office before ordering.https://www.nysapls.org/store/default.aspx
My new policy on lending out books is that the borrower must leave something with me, as security, that they value as much as I value the book. Their watch, their Nintendo Switch, their first born, a C-note, whatever.
@ars-mine-surveyor Thanks for the link.
@Norman_Oklahoma First born or nintendo lol. Love it. 😂
Send me an address to send “Land Survey Descriptions” by Wattles (10th Edition) to at [email protected]
I just sent a connect request so I can know where to send the money and I will send my address for sure. Man perfect timing I was just going to order one from NY link that was provided. Thank you.
There is no need to send money.
Well that is very thoughtful. But shipping is outrageous. I truly appreciate that. As soon as we are a connection I will send my address .
I have sent you the INFO. Thank you again.. I truly appreciate everything.
I’m not sure if this is going to be beneficial to anyone, but here it is none-the-less.
Wattles Publications in Tustin, CA is still in business. If you Google them, there is an outdated publications catalog with a few titles. I say outdated because it shows “Land Survey Descriptions” being in the sixth printing, and I have a 10th edition on my shelf. The telephone number listed, (714) 832-5711, is still in use. I called at 7:30 AM pacific time, and got the voice mail greeting.
If active, that is certainly the lowest cost source.
@dave-lindell I received the book in the mail today. Thank you very much. I am very appreciative for sure.
Sorry, I didn’t see this thread until now. And it seems like you may have obtained Wattles. I am not sure why it is not more well known but you can obtain a list of books from the Wattles catalog and purchase the book (or any of Wattles books) directly from the publisher for only $40!! There is no website that you can visit. Simply email the publisher, Jacob F. (Jim) Rems PLS, at [email protected] to receive the catalog and order form.
Wow. Thank you. I appreciate that. I will get the catalog for sure. I am always going down rabbit trails reading or studying something. So who knows might be a rainy weekend book in there for sure.
I did receive one of the wattles from here so that was great. Now that Virginia boundary book by Hyland is one I am seeking for sure. Really any Boundary type books for Virginia would help as I study and research the history.
