Leica GPS 1200 users need latest firmware
This may have already been posted, notification from Leica that some GPS1200 receivers need latest firmware to keep tracking beyond July, 2014:
GPS and GPS+Glonass systems that were manufactured between March 2006 through December 2009 may stop tracking satellites and providing positions starting July 27th 2014. All receivers that have not been updated to ME verison 3.822(may be shown as 3.054) will have the tracking issue.

Just curious: Does a Leica owner have to have an active maintenance contract in force in order to receive firmware updates?

In 2008, a similar issue happened to the Leica 500 systems. Patch was made available on-line without maintenance contract. I would hope that they will do the same with this technicality.

As a GPS1200 user I am not aware of this upgrade. Is there a link where you found this info? I too, would like to know how to solve this issue.

The issue with the need for new firmware is with GLONASS but is not a unique Leica issue. The issue is with the ephemeris data that is being sent to the GLONASS constellation. Some Leica units may need the latest Measurement Engine software upgraded to solve issues. It is always a good practice to have the latest/greatest version of the firmware on your systems. The issue here is only with updates to the Measurement Engine firmware of Leica receivers. This is needed to adjust to changes in the constellations … especially GLONASS.
There are two firmware on the Leica receivers:
1. The main firmware which includes the operating system, Leica SmartWorx field software, and all calculation engines
2. There is also a separate firmware for the measurement engine of the receiver which tracks the SV’s and sends the raw observables to the calculation engines
When you load the main firmware the latest version of the measurement engine is included in the install. However, there are times that there is and update to the measurement engine firmware between releases of the main firmware. You can upload the measurement engine firmware by itself on all Leica receivers without having to load the main software.
You can load the latest/greatest Measurement Engine firmware at no cost. The measurement engine firmware is available separately for upload.
The latest versions are:System1200/System900
Measurement Engine Version 2 – original GPS only models with no GLONASS option – ME ver 2.127
Measurement Engine Ver 3 – System1200 GG series with GPS and GLONASS only – ME ver 3.822
Measurement Engine Ver 4 – System1200 Plus – Full GNSS – ME ver. 6.112
System Viva
All Measurement Engine ver 4 – Full GNSS – ME ver. 6.212
Everyone with Leica gear can register for the free Leica myWorld site and download all of the software, manuals, etc. for your particular instrument. You will need to go to:
https://myworld.leica-geosystems.com
There is an option to register under the login fields if you have not used the site before now. You will need the serial number and part number for instruments to register. The download areas appear for each different instrument when you register the instrument. The software and specifically here the Measurement Engine firmware is listed under the software section of the instrument type.
For all GPS1200/GPS900 users there is a document listed beneath the list of Measurement Engine firmware versions called:
ME2_upload_instructions_GX12x0_ATX1230_ATX900_14_12_2012_en.pdf
This will show you how to install this on these systems. The process is different for the Viva systems.

Mark, I just went through the upload, the receiver is now reporting ME Ver 3.054, is that correct? The download file is named as 3.822 the same as you reported. I expected my receiver to also report as having 3.822 installed after the upgrade?

This is normal if you do not have firmware ver 8.5 or above on the unit. There is something with the display of the version of the ME that does not display correctly if you have firmware say 8.00 or lower. I saw this same situation with one of our customers and asked Service about the issue.
The last version that will be published for System1200 is FW 8.71. This is for GPS1200 and TPS1200. There may be some need in the future for another release but this is where the firmware has stopped for now. I am not sure if the TS30 will continue to have firmware releases for it. The TS30 is running the System1200 SmartWorx.

i am from turkey and i am using leica atx 1230 with rx 1250x.i have leica gev 234 cable.now i have some problems about my device firmware.my device firmware v,5 and i would like to upgrade to 8 or 9 version.
i download latest firmvare and download with cable to my device but when i upgrade to device its write end of maintance.pls call local disrubutor.but distrobutor dont do it anything.they say we dont support and help old version anymore.so how i can upgrade my version?

Hi, I m from India and using TC1202+ Total station, My application software accidentally got deleted except survey and set up.I want to reinstall specially stake out and reference line .I tried using the latest one v8.5 from leica available on myworld website but I can’t upload, as this version is not suitable for my old version firmware which is v5.62.
If any one can share with me application software to suit 5.62 firmware.

@surveythemark Good day Mark. Please I need your assistance with the ME ver 3.822. I cant find a link to download it and will deeply appreciate if you can send it to me. My GX1230+ GG has no measuring engine running on it and I have tried running ME V4 but it still shows thst there is no ME from the system information.

You can do free registration at MyLeicaWorld and download your Firmware.

has anybody solved this problem? Unfortunately I can’t download the current fw to my total station only newer versions.
