Leica 1205 EDM failure
Morning guys,
Yesterday went out on a simple 1 pin stake out and my Leica 1205 TCRP R300 robotic total station wouldn’t lock on the backsight.
Further examination revealed that it would shoot a distance and lock intermittently at about 12 feet, but not much more. The internal EDM strength meter showed no bar. There wasn’t the characteristic “click” noise of the EDM working either. The reflectorless mode works just fine.
Prior to getting the serial number lowdown from Kara Company, I thought I’d explore a few options with the Board’s Leica users.
I have an integrated system (GNSS/GPS 1230 antenna and RX1250 data collector) that I’ve been using. No complaints with the GNSS/GGPS 1230, but since I’ve upgraded the firmware to handle the GNSS, the RX1250 is infernally slow. I think that the upgraded firmware size has exceeded the capacity of the RX1250 processor. The RX1250 firmware isn’t the best either.
I could upgrade to a used, say TS12 and/or get a used CS15 VIVA controller. I assume it would work with the GNSS/GPS 1230 antenna. Right?
So, would the CS15 be worth it in speed and productivity? Is there a better controller that would work even better as long as I’m making the jump? I like a large screen, powerful software, good graphics, ability to see the screen in daylight (hard on the RX1250), and color. And speed.
Oh, and at my age, I can’t jump into a new system and recoup the cost, so it should be used/demo.
