Is DJI next…to be banned
Posted by stlsurveyor on May 22, 2019 at 1:25 pmThis is an interesting article – or at least gets one thinking. I know there have been concerns in the past with DJI and their units are still banded for some government uses.

I don’t know if DJI is next to be banned. But I do think the Chinese may be intentionally jerking our chain. Last w??ek a major firmware came available for the DJI Phantom 4 RTK. Upon installing the firmware on the CrystalSky controller, a closed Android OS, the entire system language changed to Chinese. It took me a few minutes of point and click through menus to change the language. Looking at forums this default to Chinese happens to everyone, and DJI is making NO effort to correct it.

That sucks – we have a mission to fly tomorrow – I am sure we will need to update software. If I get some BS like that…It may go down in the river 😉

Another one worth a read…

We once had a P4P refuse to connect to the controller. It was our issue for having the wifi on the ipad on while at the outer limits of an open connection.
Turn off wifi and cellular. Turn off automatic updates and do them all at the same time on a schedule. The bird won’t ask for updates if the controller hasn’t gotten one. Flights should go smooth if you follow that flow.

Looks like things are moving more towards a ban….About three months ago we dumped all our DJI drones from our fleet. We are flying Wintra and Parrot drones now.

It bothers me that DishTV is pushing towards every one of their customers, including me, to get their new voice-controlled remote controller.
Where all is what it hears going and is it being recorded and stored for future use. Will I need to keep the batteries out and beside the controller on the table to assure that it is not listening in on or private life conversations.
Our computers, smartphones, smart tv and that blue circle doorbell could be doing that now.
I doubt that I’ll ever have an Echo, Google Home Voice Controller or any other voice assistant. I never use Google Voice either.
Who really knows what the Chinese are up too?

I would never have a Alexa or similar in my home, nor a voice controlled remote. Not that it really makes much difference – All e-traffic is logged and can always be recovered. Every Text, Every Email, every post is logged and stashed away…
