Beautiful! I’ve always loved the historical aspect of surveying. Sometimes I feel like an archaeologist!

I am not quite following the L 8 Marker. Oglethorpe County does not appear to have any straight line boundaries and is not bounded by any L counties. So I guess I need some history lessons. Is that near Bairdstown?

It??s a mile marker. The L is for Lexington(best I can surmise). The 8 is shown on the map too. I??m amazed it has survived 130 years without being disturbed. I came across it while surveying for a third generation property owner. He knew the history of the Surveyor that led me to the map.

Generally; an 8, like that, will mean ‘mile marker’.
Search 8 miles, a mile at a time, either way; and you may find other evidence.
Happy hunting!
I hope everyone has a great day; I know I will!
