How or why did you become a surveyor?

As I recall, Colonel Hendrix left teaching in 1986 and has been surveying the great boundary in the sky since 2010 when he passed at 93.
Well I came to survey in a pretty round about way. I was originally a school teacher with a degree in Technology education, aka I was a glorified shop teacher. I taught school for 9 years until the economy tanked in 2008. Since I was the last hired in the vocational department I was the first let go. I looked for another teaching job, but at the time there were none to be had. So the fiance and I talked it over and we looked at jobs that fit me and surveying just seemed to work. So I went back to school at the local community college and got an A.A.S. in surveying technology. I graduated on a Friday and started work on the following Monday and ten and a half years later I own my own company.
