How many of your are getting a gas tax increase this legislative session?

Tennessee is trying really hard to enact an increase. Not sure if our Govenor has the votes or not.

We are in deep, deep financial trouble. We can expect all sorts of increases. Perhaps the main cause of this problem will soon be living in Italy. Prayers are being offered up to confirm the preliminary announcement of said departure.

In the land of taxes (MD in this case), a year or two ago the powers that be instituted a 6% tax on gas to implemented at 2% a year over 3 years. As has been wondered before (even on this board if memory serves), where is all the toll revenue going to if not repairing the roads as was the intent?
For some reason, my brother and sis-in-law keep making noise about moving from NJ to MD. I asked flat out one day why they don’t consider DE since that would be a much cheaper option in both taxes and house prices. No answer.

Oklahoma’s oil revenues have taken a hit the last couple of years. The domino effect of lower sales tax etc. revenues has put our State budget in the red to the tune of almost a billion dollars (give or take a hundred million). Our legislators have managed to “represent” us by raising almost every tax available…and then trying to think up a couple more. The only thing they haven’t thought of yet is taxing our taxes.
I’m sure it’s only a matter of time…

We may have turned into the polar opposite. It feels like we’re the Fast Eddie’s Used Cars of tax incentives to lure business into Texas.

Our governor and legislature are pushing a bill to increase gas taxes by 17 cents/gallon and vehicle registration fees by an average of $65/year.

As Stephen mentioned, TN has a gas tax proposed. I hope it passes. It will put a lot of people to work. They are also proposing LOWERING the tax on groceries from what I hear.

We’ve got a lot of road work that needs to be done.

There was some consideration of eliminating gas tax for a road usage fee. Every year you would have to give the VIN numbers and the respected mileage to determine the tax. Not sure where it is right now. Wonder if it will be the same tax for semi’s as for motorcycles.

Get the semi-trailers on RR tracks and the highway infrastructure problem becomes much cheaper to solve.

No
But they’re tossing it around again.
There are some strong lobbies here.
There was mention of a tax at the refineries but that doesn’t have a chance due to the lobbies.Unfortunately, they have screwed with college education grants to scholarships students. Grant program that has been in place for a few decades that has provided tuition costs at in-state schools.
They are proposing more attacks on the program.
Sorry can’t avoid the political but our former governor that had presidential fantasies and made budget decisions based on political grandstanding really screwed up. Thanks (not) Bobby wherever you are now.
