Handheld EDM, Rangefinder, etc
I left my leica Yardage Pro on the hood, some months ago. Backed up, and forgot about it. It gone. It was pretty good. It did not read in feet, and it did not correct for slope. But, it was nice, and I miss it. It was large, and heavy.
I have a Leica Disto. It’s picky. It has a laser dot. Good for up to about 30 feet.
The hunters gear all is in yards.
The Golfer also work in yards.
The foresters have apparently some of what we want.

What I WANT is a unit like a monocular, with ability to measure to trees up to 2000′ away.
I want it to read in feet. I want it to be accurate to the tenth, in 200′
I want it to give slope, and horizontal, and vertical difference. I know there is the technology for this thing. It should have a 1/4″ thread on the bottom, to stabilize it.
As I read up on stuff, it looks like LONG range, is YARDS, or METERS.
Short range stuff, is feet, and tenths.
Anyway, I’d like it all in ONE BOX. Unfortunately, it looks like 2 or 3 units, with different specs.
Any suggestions?

That’s an odd brand. I didn’t find any reviews on it. What do you think? Have you got one?

My Disto is much better than the old one. It has a video screen. It reduces slope to horizontal and vertical. It has a tripod. It doesn’t go 2000 feet, though. 300 feet and change to a light target flat to the laser.

That looks like a rebranded Disto/adapter combination. I wonder how it orients the compass? My Disto E7500 doesn’t do compass.
Nate: My Disto is very capable and has much better specs than your older unit. 600′ range best case. Does verticals. Awesome.
Unfortunately, Disto does not talk to the LS like one of the Bosch handheld units, does, allegedly. I have to do offsets manually.

Check out the Hilti PD-E. I am using a Hilti PD-I and it works well in the salt mine at distances to 300 feet. It also has a bunch of functions that may come in handy.

A side note
The Engineer who had a Survey License that I worked for in the early 80s wanted to buy one of these types of range finders to use with a Berger transit instead of an actual Total Station.
We had over 10 miles of Meander Boundary to locate around a 255 acre lake.
I rented a Topcon TS and we finished the project within 3 weeks and I had to supply the canoe to work out of.
